Is it any better than Sirius?

I have XM, but I cannot compare it to Sirius personally, just what I have heard. The advantages I have heard over Sirius is that xm music is higher quality and has deeper playlists. Sirius is closer to radio in that they play more of the same stuff. The one thing Sirius has that I would want it the NFL. Some people have both, but I think that is a little much. I am a big fan of XM though.

I was told by the Best Buy rep that the only good thing about Sirius is NASCAR and Stern.

Yea...they do have Nascar in 2007. XM as a company is more financially stable...and quite a few people feel that XM is going to buy/merge with Sirius before it is said and done.

He better, because with what they are paying him, they better gain a ton of subscribers.

i have had sirius since the beginning, and with directv now i get XM at home for free, and quite frankly XM sucks ass compared to sirius, and that doesn't even include now that i can get stern, nascar and nfl next year. take for example on XM's rap channel i heard the same freaking rap christmas song (that sucks) constantly, and half the songs i've never heard before, quite frankly i can't stand listening to it. I'll keep my sirius thanks. just my opinion

They might have more NPR, but to say they are not as corporate is ridiculous. Mel Karmazin came from Clear channel. Can you get any more "corporate" than that.

I know that he's some controversial dude who was kicked off some radio but I haven't actually ever listened to him speak.

Another reason I went for XM was that most of Sirius receivers looked ugly. And the one I bought can be used like a walkman

Love my XM.
I usually listen to Squizz, Boneyard, or the jazz channels. Not having commercials is a god-send.

I mostly listen to rap/r&B/old school/reaggee/reaggaeton, etc... I like to hear music that I know and that is popular that isn't censored. I'm not a huge underground or rock/alt fan. I love the music that i listen to and that's what I'm paying to hear. I'm not afraid of any type of music, but I want to hear what I know and what is to my liking. hell half the time i hear something that's new, i go buy the cd and get to like songs that haven't been played on any broadcast or satellite and within a month or so they're playing those songs as well.

Mel Karmazin worked (was the president of) Infinity Broadcasting not Clear Channel.

Stern just isn't going to be the panacea that Sirius thinks he will be. $500M for 5 years for someone that is 52yo and still thinks it is compelling radio to weigh some dudes dumps? (as mentioned on the Daily Show) Stern has been announced as coming to Sirius for going on 6 months or more and sirius is still only at about 2.8million subscribers. XM is probably gonna pass 6million by the end of the year. XM owns Sirius. And if you want good radio, bag stern and get on the O&A train.

What I like about Sirius:

NCAA tourney
NPR

What I like about XM:

ACC Basketball and Football

Until one has all three, I'm getting neither.

XM used to be cheaper, but now they are the same. XM was never 2 bucks more monthly.

my receiver has no more than one bar of satellite signal at home. It is using terrestrial signals. Is this typical?

if you're inside then reception is going to suffer, although a coworker of mine gets full 4 bar reception inside his room that has no windows to the outside world.

The only complaint I have about XM is that you can't scroll through the channel listings without seeing Kelly Clarkson being played on at least two channels at the same time.

She's fucking horrible and wish she'd die.

I have Sirius and I love it. I hate not having ACC games readily broadcasted (they have like every other conference in America, but I think XM stole ACC ) But, their array of Rock channels and the deep playlists are awesome. They have every kind of "normal" or "off the wall" or "indie" rock you can imagine. Sounds great too...I would hafta test both out to pick between the 2. I got Sirius as a factory-installed option on my new car and it's free for a year so I have never had XM to compare to.

I went with XM because they have a deeper music selection and deeper playlist. Sirius does have the NFL, which I want, but I can just tune to ESPN radio to get my updates on Sunday.

Its comparing a few big names (Sirius) vs wider quality selection (XM)

Personally went XM here. I was really happy that they broadcast the NASCAR races and ACC games on XM and the MLB games. I was kinda pissed they don't have the NFL games though. I could really give a shit about Stern or O&A to tell the truth. I don't listen to either. Just never think about it I guess. I love XM's online aspect (which is free now with your membership) and the main thing I'm pissed about with XM right now is that they have relegated Liquid Metal (the main heavy metal channel) to fucking online only. What kinda shit is that!! I would give up all those crappy rap/urban stations if they'd just send me the fucking metal station.
