I am finding the new version of Firefox really bloated and slow. Oftentimes it takes up more than 150MB of RAM and the page rendering is considerably slower. Hence I am looking for an IE based browser. I tried Avantbrowser but got annoyed by the fact that the browser page didn't automatically get focus as soon as you typed in the URL, making it necessary to click on the webpage before you could use arrow keys.
I am currently on Maxthon and it seems pretty good. Are there any other good alternatives available? 12/20/2005 6:47:05 PM |

annoying thing about maxthon: there is no X icon to close the current tab. You either use the keyb shortcut or right click on the tab. 12/20/2005 6:52:05 PM |

Slimbrowser, but I haven't used it in quite a while.
Also IE7 has tabs natively. 12/20/2005 6:53:49 PM |

ummm I already said I don't like Avantbrowser
I like to use the tab key to select URLs. I like the browser page to get automatic focus after I click on the url. 12/20/2005 10:21:54 PM |

you mean using tab to go through links?
you mean when you click on a link that opens up a new page, that new page is in focus?
because my avantbrowser does all that and I didn't do a damn thing to its configuration. 12/20/2005 10:25:49 PM |

There is a pref that enables trimming Firefox memory usage when you minimize all Firefox windows. This pref is for Windows only. To enable it, set config.trim_on_minimize to true using about:config.
this works GREAT for me. it removes alot of shit from memory.
also, if you're using adblock with 1.5, chuck it. use http://bene.sitesled.com/adblock.htm adblock plus

Maugan. Mine doesn't do any of that. When I click ctrl+l or Alt+d to get the address field, I have to use the arrow keys which I am not used to. Also, when I select a URL and it opens it, I can't use pgUp or pgDn or arrow keys or space bar because it isn't in focus. I have to click on the webpage.
Annoying. 12/20/2005 10:31:05 PM |

Try Opera.
It is fast as hell and it uses tagged browsing by default. And IE sucks anyway, try something new. 12/21/2005 3:40:09 AM |

ultra I used Maxthon for a while and i remember it having an "x" to close a tab. It was just in the middle of the tool bar, and not on the right side where you'd expect it.
You could slide it over but the tool bar would never remember the button's position. It would be back in the middle if you restarted the browser.
Maybe youre just using a skin that removes the button. try a different skin?12/21/2005 1:28:29 PM |

I HAVE REAL GOOD TABS IN IE!
ITS CALLED THE TASKBAR! 12/21/2005 1:29:46 PM |

The taskbar is a taskbar. When I say tabs I am not talking about webpages in the context of a "task". There is huge differences.
