either way, it is no more efficient to have to delete the parts of the quoted text than it is to just copy and paste. this is especially true in soap box, where quoting is most prevalent.

3. hit post reply
4. open quote
5. cntrl v
6. close quote
7. post reply

The quote button way
1. click
2. select unwanted text
3. press del

convenient way to look at it. problem with that theory is that you can select specific text while you read through a post and then either reply with that copied text or open a new window in which to quote multiple people in the same post. if you have to find a specific sentence in a block of text your going to waste more time than simply selecting what you wanted in the first place.

sure your first thing has 3 more steps, but "select unwanted text" requires more time than the entire center section of your first how-to. not to mention, quote bombing, as done in soap box, is much easier under the current system.

even with a quote button the thread would be displayed under the reply box to allow for you quote bombers to do your thing. adding a quote button would not do away with the old way of quoting for you people that like to do things the hard way.

for single post quotes and partial post quotes (the majority of quotes) the quote button is substantially more efficient.

in most instances these would be the only steps involved

again, why bother quoting at all if you are referencing their entire post. i still contend (and have had ppl agree) that quoting a single sentence or paragraph is just as easy if not easier currently, especially if said sentence is in the middle of a long post. quoting multiple parts of the same post would be no easier.

I think the reason we dont see eye to eye on this is because I am generally quoting posts in chitchat that are about one line in length. The reason for quoting such posts is if you are responding to one that as 3-4 posts up it makes it clear what you are commenting on. You guys are quoting shit that is written in essay form so you are spending fifteen minutes writing/responding to each post anyway.
