I've got a chance to make a great prop bet for five hundred, I just wanna make sure I understand the wording correctly. It reads as follows:
Quote : | " Neither the Colts NOR Seahawks Play in 2006 Super Bowl 01/22/06 220 Yes -300 OFF OFF 13:05 ET No +240 OFF OFF
" |
I'm thinking in this case the +240 is on NEITHER team making the Super Bowl. So if either seattle, who is 8-0 at home, or the colts, who are 6-1, make the game, I get paid 1200 on my wager. Is this the correct wording? No means that at least one of the teams will play, while Yes means that the the propistion is true, and neither team will play? The reason I ask is that the odds almost seem like they should be reversed, with 2.4 to 1 odds going against either team making the super bowl. It seems very likely that at least one team will make it. Am I reading this correctly, or does it seem conspicuously worded?1/1/2006 11:58:47 AM |

you've got it backwards.
I'm not sure what to do with the whole niether, nor thing... and I think your analysis of the question is correct...
Id email the book and ask for clarification.
but i assure you that taking yes means one of the teams will be in
taking no means they will not.
I'd lay the -300 and take yes.

yeah im gonna call them before the games start today. The lines sound wierd, and from a grammatical perspective they seem too good to be true. But I'm almost sure its the other way around as you said. 1/1/2006 12:09:17 PM |

Crazy stuff, i talked to 3 guys and they all swore it was the way it appears to be, with +240 coming my way if either SEATTLE or INDY makes it. Seems like easy money to me. Im down for 5 hundred, possibly a thousand 1/1/2006 12:17:57 PM |

Lee: Hello Lee: How may I help you? rally: hello, I need clarification on a proposition bet... rally: it is under NFL season props #220 rally: Would you please identify what "yes" infers and what "no" infers rally: If the Colts were to play the Bears in the super bowl... would "yes" be the winner or would "no" be the winner Lee: can you tell what the bet says Lee: ? rally: yes rally: "Neither the Colts NOR the Seahawks Play in 2006 Super Bowl" rally: Yes (-300) or No (+240) Lee: we have had a few enquiries regarding this and my supervisor is looking into it presently Lee: If you can wait i will be able to tell you shortly, or you can contact us later today? rally: what is the policy if they decide to switch the wording rally: can the bet be refunded? rally: or do i get to keep my original bet Lee: Well we are infact trying to find out exactly what they mean by the wording, i suggest you do not place the bet until we confirm exactly what the bet entails rally: okay well an operator earlier confirmed the bet was correct earlier and its already been placed rally: i was thinking about wagering more Lee: ok, what was your interpretation of the bet rally: That if the Colts OR Seahawks play in the Super Bowl then "No" is the correct answer rally: i used the example if the Colts play the Bears would "no" be correct and the operator said i was correct Lee: sorry just give me one moment to confirm this 1/1/2006 1:31:17 PM |

Lee: ok a yes bet means that if at least one or both teams do not make the final you will win rally: ? rally: what does a no bet mean? rally: it says "nor" Lee: ok, a no bet means that you win only if both teams play in the final rally: i dont believe that is consistent with the wording rally: it doesnt say they have to play each other in the bet rally: its says "Play" rally: as in rally: Seatlle doesnt play in the super bowl rally: or Indy doesnt play in the super bowl Lee: That is what we have been told the bet means we had our linesmakers review it and they have told us that is how the bet stands rally: okay well heres the thing rally: your other operator told me it meant something else rally: so if its possible id like to have my bet cancelled Lee: ok i will set up a ticket and forward this to our wagering department to have it reviewed for a refund, one moment
Better go get your money back, they're not being honest about it. 1/1/2006 1:41:02 PM |

^ are they? i still dont see how they are correct.
Or why the hell they used all that garbage wording.
There is a separate bet already available if you wish to bet on Seattle vs Indianapolis in the Super Bowl.
They better refund that shit ive got $500 on it. Their operator incorrectly stated the terms of the bet before I took it.
IF they don't screw those shady bastards.
And go Colts/Seahawks! 1/1/2006 3:58:33 PM |

No they just made a litany of errors..
Im alright with what ive got now (although i still think they messed up the wording)
either way i can lay most of this off to assume less risk and its no big deal...
depending on the size of the bonus, this might work out well 1/3/2006 1:08:10 PM |

i swear
i just read it as
Yes means the superbowl will not feature indianapolis or seattle
no means that at least one of those teams makes the superbowl 1/3/2006 1:11:05 PM |
rallydurham Suspended 11317 Posts user info edit post |
^ yep, thats what it SHOULD mean.
They clearly made an error in the wording.
It makes me angry, because they should either honor the bet or refund the money.
But what made me really angry is that they lied to me on three separate occasions when I contacted them.
They were telling me they never said things when I had the chat transcript right in front of me.
The whole thing is shady, but at least it looks like im not getting COMPLETELY screwed. 1/3/2006 1:13:19 PM |

Neither ... nor ... is not a double negative.
From the way the bet is worded, it should be:
Yes, neither the Colts nor the Seahawks play in the 2006 Super Bowl
or
No, either the Colts or the Seahawks will play in the 2006 Super Bowl.
Like Lokken said.

I still got the 5 hundy on that bet, and have recieved TWO seperate confirmation emails on what exactly has to happen for for to win or lose. I'm fully confident that 1200 will be sent my way if either seattle or indy plays in detroit on febuary 5th. 1/3/2006 2:57:12 PM |

^ lol, you're in a state of denial my man.
We may have come in on different ships, but we're in the same boat now.
You need the Super Bowl to be Sea vs Indy or else your ass is out $500. 1/3/2006 2:59:55 PM |
