Every single goddam channel has this exploitative reels from last night at that mine in WV.
REEL #1: OH MY GOD THEY'RE ALIVE! THE CHURCH BELLS ARE RINGING.
REEL #2: OH MY GOD THEY'RE DEAD! OH MY GRIEF. PLEASE MSM EXPLOIT ME MORE!
It's really sad that these people went through that rollercoaster... even sadder that they keep playing that on the news. Let these poor people grieve. 1/4/2006 2:02:29 PM |

They reported the news from the families like it was fact and now they keep running the families misery every 5 minutes. HOW ABOUT SOME NEWS? I dont care about some peoples misery. Thats not news.
They are all a bunch of fake-emphathizing tools like geraldo.

I just think the exploitative methods that these news channels are running are abominable. Yes. It's very sad that these people were told that their folks were alive, then dead. But please, please, please, stop running your channel off of pure emotional exploitation.
^ Yep. See Alaskan Snow Crab fishing. I love that show on Discovery.

I have seen that show!
I want to become an Alaskan crab fisher.
The job [crab season] lasts for 3 months only, and you make $60,000 during that time.
Free to do whatever you want for 9 months!
But yeah, it is an extremely dangerous job with extremely harsh conditions.

That's nearly 4 times the fatality rate of timber cutters, which has the highest fatality rate of any occupation in the US. (Alaskan crab fishermen fall under "fishers", which has an average fatality rate of 70 per 100,000)
