Not that I think Oreily has the most reliable interpretation of media matters, but Dave was kinda uncharacteristically rude. Which was funny, I wish he'd treat more of the self-involved actors in a similar fashion. 1/4/2006 9:56:33 PM |

Quote : | "In fact, the new song lyrics are part of a 1988 Christmas play called The Little Tree's Christmas Gift, in which a scraggly Christmas tree is informed it may not be sold and will instead become firewood, prompting it to croon the revised version of "Silent Night" while lamenting its situation. Think Progress further explained that the play's creator, Dwight Elrich, is the musical director of the New Covenant Singers at Bel Air Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles -- which a December 20 Washington Post article noted was "former president Ronald and Nancy Reagan's church in California" -- and his play has been performed by churches across the country. According to Elrich's website, his products "make it easy for you to produce a fantastic Kids Christmas Musical Program." Elrich told the Post: "I'm just flabbergasted. I'm a choir director in a church! I perform 'Silent Night' 40 or 50 times each year! I thought the play was a really charming, wonderful, positive story about love and acceptance ... removing it from the Christian tradition was something I never thought anyone could ever come up with. We were telling a story about a little tree, so we used a familiar tune to help the kids get it."" |

I saw this on TV and the video that is shown here is editied. They left out the parts that O'reilly completely owned Dave on (the entire Cindy Shehan conversation, as well as supporting the troops). Funny how all that was left out, huh?

if you dont have a massive yellow ribbon on your set, youre not supporting the troops.
Letterman has broadcasted his show on the Armed Forces network overseas in the past and I can't think of a single Christmas that goes by when he doesnt bring in tons of soldiers to the show.
If you think that you have to say you "support" the troops every 5 seconds and suck up to the right to support the troops, youre dumb as fuck.
i dont take any political pundits seriously, i dont care who they are. O'Reily can hot in hell.

I just watched the unedited version and I really don't see anywhere that Letterman every got "owned". Bill made one or two decent points, but I would hardly say that he owned Letterman at any point. 1/6/2006 9:31:37 AM |

Its just a fact that Oreily is full of shit. All his stories about the war on xmas were massive alterations of what really happened. 1/6/2006 9:47:17 AM |

i saw the interview on tv
Dave's only mistake was defending Shehan's 'personal loss' instead of attacking O'reilley's strawman that she represents the entire war opposition. 1/6/2006 10:07:57 AM |

In case you missed it, they edited out all the parts that the crowd applauded for what O'reilly said. It has nothing to do with media matters covering for Dave, and everything to do with media matters downing O'reilly.

^read the quote about the silent night lyrics and why they were changed. Oreilly is full of shit. I saw the full video and they never really applauded his points so much as jokes that he made. 1/6/2006 10:46:35 AM |

Please. Oreily spreads more bullshit then anyone on tv. Its a natural byprodic of artificial richeous outrage.
I like watching him. Its fun to watch. But he makes up like half the shit he says. This is well documented.
