I would like to hear some of the many ways there are to do it to perhaps give me an idea.
Freebie that I've come up with: -Go out to a bar you don't usually go to and check out if there are any groups there that are just off work...or somethin'. Figure out their waitress and be like "yo, check it- buys these posse a drink and tell them it's on me."
Order yourself a new castle- just so you can stay cool- and hang out. Minutes later address the waitress and hand her a pre-written card that has your resume on it- on the reverse side: "Hiring?"
anyway...go on. 1/5/2006 2:46:11 PM |

Researched companies that I was interested in, and applied to them. Then compared job descriptions, long term development prospects, and compensation, and picked one offer over the others. 1/5/2006 3:07:44 PM |

I got in w/ NC State's co-op program. Then I landed an awesome co-op, and before I have even graduated I've signed a job offer to start work as soon as I graduate in June

had lunch with a friend from my church
so I guess you could go to a church and try to talk to business people there, they would be willing to talk to you about a job because they're associated with you through their church 1/5/2006 5:06:41 PM |

Do this for 5 minutes and you'll probably be hassled by 2 or 3 Amway/Quixtar nutcases.

job 1: internet job 2: internet job 3: internet
all my consulting work comes by word of mouth from all the people i did work for for free for a year or so - one project done for free easily turns into 10 paid gigs if you bust your ass on it
so much for the sound advice
back to the point... from what i've seen i don't think you have to worry about somebody actually hiring you no matter what you do 1/5/2006 9:11:32 PM |

Uh, so far the first job I got was a result of maintaining good contact with their HR department and asking about the job, showing interest in the job... And also that the job was for working with the state. It popped up on erecruiting's website, I applied, I talked to them, I got the job.
The next job? I simply applied. They talked back to me a couple months after reading my resume when a couple positions opened up. I had previous state experience, this job was working at a state-run retail outlet (the NCSU bookstores of course).
Presently I've kept in contact with a private firm fairly frequently about a summer internship, and I got a pretty positive response last time (and I think they were serious). I just keep my resume looking as good as I can and apply to whatever job I see come up, then I send an e-mail asking a bit about the job if there's some gray area. So far that's worked. 1/6/2006 12:43:00 AM |

i have used Temp agencies and I work with several recruiters in my industry also, classifieds and career builder has landed me a job
networking within the industry and attending Cary and Raleigh Chamber Events
also, have a list of companies that you are interested to work, speak to the HR department for a listing of current openings. some companies will not post unless its an internal posting so its always good to be nice to the HR folks 1/6/2006 2:02:46 PM |

I went to the Yahoo! Directory and looked up every company that dealt with financial advising. I called so many it took days (It was in Charleston, I think I called ~70) and begged for a job. I got several interviews and 3 job offers. I took one and worked there for two summers and then one of the other two companies offered me a full time job which I took and will start in May 1/7/2006 1:12:28 PM |
