do have to have never looked under a hood to work there or something?

my lil bro needs steering rack bushings for his 92 escort. i look em up on advances website, about 10 bux for both. he calls over there and the kid tells him there is no such item. calls back with the part # and he says he cant look them up like that. he calls ford and they say they are discontinued (possibly true), calls autozone and they have them but they are twice as much.

so we ordered them off advances website. crossin my fingers on that one.

pff, not a chance. They get paid $6-$8 an hour. Anyone with half a lick of knowledge would be working in the garage.

I'd have walked in the goddam store and handed them the fucking part number and told them to pull the damn thing.

I do that all the time. Because they are such fucking retards. And I mean FUCKING RETARDS.

I've worked in parts for YEARS...I know what's what. Don't look at me like I don't.

Many a parts toolbag has learned that the hard way.

but my bro is kindof a noob and wants to learn by doing etc so i let him handle it.

Tell him to quit being so stubborn if he wants to learn in a timely manner.

the district managers and regional guys don't know their asshole from a hole in the ground.

they get a job there b/c they've got business experience, but it's painfully obvious that they don't know jack shit about parts or service. it'd be nice if they required their managers to have ASE cert. or have real world experience in the automotive world.

that partially explains why advance and autozone make you want to bash your head in with a BFH.

it also explains the logic of the company to offer two cobra replicas/$/vacation/etc... to the managers of any store that consistently exceeds sales goals, while giving the peons NOTHING.

some parts guys know whats up at the discount stores, you kinda have to talk to them and find out though. on the same token, there are fuckups that work at carquest and napa stores too.

related story, theres a guy at napa on atlantic that i thought was clueless at first, after a couple trips up there where i dealt with him i found out he knew his shit. actually it was during a conversation about his cobra having tailpipes instead of sidepipes. its a real yellow roadster, shelby built, big SVO crate engine with a dual plane and a smaller carb for street driving. yes, he daily drives the fuckin thing.

I had to go to Wilmington tonight, so I took some studs off of my farm trailer which has spindles off of what I estimate to be a late 40's-early 50's ton and a half Ford truck. I showed the guy at Advance the studs and he wanted make/model so I said "you don't want to know." They didn't have any even close to that large, but to the guy's credit he was able to cross-reference the numbers off the bearings and seals.
