Talk about a waste of money... Even with those facility upgrades, they aren't going to compete with Oklahoma & Texas. They haven't won a conf. title in what 30 years? They should that money to buy a super coach.

It seems like one of the stipulations, along with giving a ton of money, to getting your name on a stadium is having a totally bad ass sounding name:

"Boone Pickens Stadium"

We need to start growing some richer, more generous alumni around here.

Talk to Jim Goodnight. He's worth a good 4 billion or so.

That's where the "more generous" part comes in.

Cause to me, he's the owner of the Oklahoma State football team. He puts money into the team, it counts as a tax writeoff, and he has influence over major decisions. That's a better handshake than the NFL (tax writeoff vs. potential profits but risk of loss)

In this case, Pickens doesn't have to micromanage the athletic department. Not when one of his close friends and quail-hunting partner is the athletic director. Over the past two hunting seasons, they've talked about Holder's broadening his reach and going after the AD job. Holder also invests with him, and Pickens says he's done "very well." Consider this: How many golf coaches -- even ultrasuccessful types like Holder -- work their way up the ladder to run a major Division I-A sports program?

"Oh yeah, sure I recommended him," says Pickens, who gave OSU's commencement address last month. "I mean he was the guy. No different than I was the guy when they had to go for the big bucks."

But he adds: "I want to know what is going on. If we have a coaching change I want to be one of the first to know about it. If anybody is leaving or coming in, I sure want to be in on helping pick that person."

OSU has a pretty decent basketball program, making the Final Four a few times. Eddie Sutton is a helluva coach.

If I had at least a billion dollars...I'd love to give a shit ton to this university. I wouldn't miss it(hell not even my grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren would miss it) and it would be cool to give back to the university for all of the good times(and i guess the education too )

Plus, many years down the road people will be saying your name in reference to a great game they saw in your stadium..
