Look at this shit
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060111-5951.html
Guy sues netflix about false advertising
Settlement happens, guy gets $2000 for himself and netflix agrees to up 3 dvds to 4 etc for a period of time, requiring the member to opt out at the end - which is a seperate issue from what I am complaining about
His lawyers get 2.5 million from netflix
I am glad the FTC is getting involved, but they need to do something about the lawyers too. I can imagine they coerced that money for themselves out of netflix wanting to avoid a costly trial. That plaintiff should have gotten a shit ton of it. Scumbags. 1/11/2006 5:11:59 PM |

I wonder if this is part of the reason why people sue for exorbitant (sp?) amounts of money; the lawyers take a huge chunk for themselves. 1/11/2006 7:41:15 PM |

When people hire lawyers for lawsuits, the cost is usually going to be part of the deal, i.e. he knew they were going to be expensive. 1/12/2006 10:25:17 AM |

The law firm that argued the case will not be receiving free Netflix memberships; instead, they are asking (and Netflix has agreed) for US$2,528,000 in attorney's fees and costs. As they point out, "Plaintiff's Counsel have not received payments for their services, nor have they been reimbursed for any out-of-pocket expenses, in connection with this Litigation." It's hard to feel too upset about this when the lawyers make US$2.5 million and consumers get a month of four DVDs at a time instead of their usual three. And what about Chavez? US$2,000 for his time and trouble." |
I'm kind of confused that this could happen. Or maybe just skeptical.1/12/2006 12:35:44 PM |
