no way in hell it'll happen in our lifetime. there's been off and on talk/rumors of putting a highway through there for years and years.

i could give a fuck, tear it down and build an nice autobahn. i think its pretty piss poor how all kinds of car and bike nerds go up there and exceed safe speeds and shit, constantly get into accidents, endanger innocent truckers, and then brag about it. to hear them cry about it getting decommissioned is music to my ears.

I wouldn't expect someone with a Bonneville and a Cutlass to appreciate it anyway

^^have you ever been there? it's the curviest road i've ever seen, and there are no other roads where people can pull out in front of you for the entire 11 mile stretch.

^^^^^there aren't that many truckers through there. most of them prefer to drive on roads that they can navigate without using both lanes and both shoulders.

trucks have no business being on there, even if it wasn't a popular attraction for automotive/bike enthusiasts. there's more than enough signs warning of the dangers, so there's no exscuse for the idiots that drive through there and get high centered on the crown, dump the trailer off the shoulder, etc.

i haven't found it to be that entertaining the few times i've been due to all the traffic. there's lots of other more secluded/less traveled spots i prefer to hit. 421 west of mountain city, tn for example...

^^421 west of Mountain City? That's like 30 minutes from my apartment, I'll have to check it out...I went water skiing/wakeboarding on South Holston Lake a lot last summer, I just always came from the other direction Let me know if you're ever up this way man, I'll join you for some roads, there's some other great ones I can recommend. 58 up in VA is freakin awesome, although I've only done it once.

umm... unless this shit gets directed towards canton and such, its not going to affect 129.

they've been trying to put this shit in for 15 years and almost got done in the early '90's when
most of the counties were in economic dire straights but failed the feasability of the time. now
everything is going good in the mountains except for the manufacturing sect, can't keep a
company there more than 4 or 5 years because there are no major direct roads, such as
interstates and such, you have to go through a gorge or over a mountain everywhere you go,
killing time and gas mileage.

and fyi, there are curvier roads, out there, but i don't think any of them are 11 miles long.
