spyware/virus

control + alt + delete

click on processes, see what's taking up all that cpu usage

type that file name into yahoo like "explorer, information" generally this will tell you what the file is about and then from that you should be able to figure out some possible spywares that are making the process so busy. when all else fails, format computer.

google any processes that you think about stopping before you do so.

If your computer is old and you recently installed a new version of Symantec Antivirus, that can cause it as well.

Download HiJack This and post your log here.

^^ well help me out... tell me what to delete and make sure it is a permanent deletion, i.e., wont be back after a reboot.

as far as donwloading stuff goes, i am probably the most backward; i hardly download anything, considering that i still use a modem. i do, however, go to a lot of sites from all different genres, so i guess i have a lot of unwanted hidden stuff. thanks for any help.

^ who me? i didn't know i did.

ok, i used:

hijackthis
adaware
spybot

and i deleted or quarantined a lot of dodgy stuff, like BHO's, cookies, browser hijackers, etc.

but when i restarted my computer, they are back.

and i have done this several times. it gets fixed, but after reboot, these things are back. but if i delete their registry entries and all related files, how do they come back? even deleted the dodgy startup files.

cpu at 100% continuously

what should i do?

keep getting popups from winfixer.com, maxwilly.com, and winantiviruspro.com. and they seem like they are stored on my laptop.

if you backup all of your computer on an external hard-drive and then format C.. then loan all of the saved items back to your laptop wont the problem still be there?

My laptop is giving me some blue screen about everytime I log-on and I dont know if this would fix my computer or just re-load the same problem (assuming its not a hard-ware problem).

google that stuff and you should find everything you need to know 'bout removing them. a quick scan through winfixer fixes shows that you have to download removal software, etc. go for it
