Primarily ones that most people might not be familier with.

I like a pretty wide variety of music, but plain ol' "normal" rock & roll is kinda hard to come by these days.

I'll start:

1. Drivin' & Cryin'
2. Cry Of Love
3. Casanovas
4. Cross Canadian Ragweed
5. Silvertide
6. Buckcherry (maybe pushing the top-40 boundary of the genre a little, here, but I'd say they qualify...and I only know a handful of songs by them. The rest of their stuff could potentially suck.)

6. Black Crowes (not obscure by any means, so i hesitate to mention them, but they're kind of the benchmark, and I've met plenty of people who've either never heard of them, or have heard of them, but have no idea who they are)

Who hasn't heard of the Black Crowes? They were pretty fucking popular on alt rock radio in the nineties.

Jimmy Eat World and Silverchair are not at all part of the genre I'm talking about. Not even close.

and you'd be surprised how many people are clueless about the Black Crowes.

ok

i mean, the bands i listed don't all really sound the same (Silvertide vs Cross Canadian, for example...pretty different), but they're all strongly blues-based, traditional modern rock.

Why does it need to be modern?

If you don't have all the Stones' albums (up to a point, obviously), you need them.

because there's no point in listing all the good traditional classic rock bands. there are only fortyeleven thousand of them. I mean, yeah, the Beatles and Stones are the shit, but (1) everyone knows the Beatles and Stones (2)they're a totally different sound.

I know prob 95% of the good classic rock bands. I'm looking for new stuff.

I can't believe I forgot motherfucking Valient Thorr.

They rock. REALLY FUCKING HARD.

Cherry Valence is also excellent. The Spiders, from Austin TX (not the old soul group) are pretty damn good, too, though the vocals get a little odd here and there.

We were talking at work how Rock is nonexistent right now. We had trouble thinking of any notable rock bands that are even mildly successful right now.

I love the Black Crowes. They were about 25 years too late, though.

of course. i saw them at the Ritz back in about '95 or '96 when they first came out. Pat Smear was playing with them.

but they're not at all part of the genre I'm talking about here.

check out some of clutch's newer stuff, like from blast tyrant and robot hive/exodus . their earlier stuff is much more metal like. on the last two they've begun to incorporate a much more classic rock sound, you notice a lot more of a doors sound on robot hive/exodus. no matter which cd of theirs ya listen to though, there will be bunches of metaphors that you don't quite get.

you might try kings of leon as well, but they are borderline the profile you gave.
