I was DDing for some freinds the other night and got a speeding ticket on Centennial. 54 in a 40. I thought I would catch a break since I was a DD, but the cop didnt seem to agree.
The ticket costs me 135 bucks or I could hire a lawyer for over 300.

What should I do here, pay the fine, or get a lawyer? You think playing the DD card could help me out in court?

if you were actually going 14 over, then it's all but automatic that the DA will drop it to 9-over, no questions asked.

go to court, ask for 9-over, pay the premium highway usage tax, and go about your business.

it's basically a racket, anyway. Just look at it like this...they want your money. you want to drive fast. driving fast is like a premium usage allowance. you have to pay extra to be able to do it.

^25 highway, slightly less than that around town (prob like 24 if you drive it easy. more like 20 if you drive it like i do).

yeah i thought the 9-over was a one-time deal for your first ticket so it wouldn't affect your insurance points.

you're saying you only have to pay for driving faster than everyone once in a while,
but you have to pay higher insurance rates when you get multiple tickets so that wouldn't be completely true.

i would get a lawyer (i always have), insurance rates are extremely high, and they are getting a huge increase this year, i find it a lot better to pay $300 for a lawyer than to have 3 years of high rates - a friend of mine got her first ticket (dropped to 9 over) and her insurance almost trippled - so I would take the lawyer route - you can always go improper equipment or prayer for judgement - improper equipment rox tho

You can probably get 9 over again, but it will affect your insurance until three years from the first ticket that you got.

A lawyer is nothing but a professional butt kisser. However they are worth it sometimes. Because if you don't get it reduced, the insurance will make you wish you had paid that 300 bucks

Student legal services has information like that, and most people get more than a few letters in the mail from local lawyers out to make a buck.

I got 2 tickets within 2 months of each other and got them both reduced. The second time I went they asked me if I had gotten a ticket in the last 3 years and I said no. It seemed to work cause this was 6 months ago and I just renewed my insurance and there were no points of any kind on the renewal. 236 bucks for 6 months bitches

hahah im gonna copy and paste this to a text file for every time this thread comes up....

dont call up there and bug the people. just show up on the court date. if its the 730-330 court, show up at like 1030. if you show up around 8 or 9, youre gonna be in line for fucking ever. but anyways, you wont even have to really bring it up to the ADA, they pretty much ask you if you'll plead guilty to 9 over.

there are gonna be like 400 people on the docket each day in that courtroom, and if all of them plead not guilty the system would bottleneck like crazy.... so they give away some pretty sweet deals in traffic court

(i still think a "not guilty strike" where everyone plead not guilty would be fucking awesome)

Make sure they do not use your PJC for this or you will be fucked when you get your next ticket. Just plead guilty without using the PJC because you can get a ticket for 9 over and it wont affect your insurance, but the second one will. The next one is the one you want to use the PJC for.

You can only get a certian number of 9 overs within a certain time period without it affecting you. I dont remember the specifics because the lawyer usually handles them. However I do remember him specifically telling me that the DA fucked me really bad by wasting my PJC on the first one because that would not have hurt me anyway.

Got a ticket this morning for 15 over. Tried the whole "call the DA and get it reduced" thing and it didn't work. According to them there is no way to get it reduced outside of court.

Anyone going down Clark/Faircloth, look out for Officer Taylor. He likes to sit at the bottom of the hill and give you speeding tickets and BS non-signed registration card tickets.

go to court, when you get there, speak to the DA (you have to do this... it is the way it works)
ask the DA if he can reduce the charge to 9 over, and then just say "guilty" to the judge when he/she calls you up.

im going to durham for court tomorrow for my 15 over, my second in maybe a year and a half as i previously mentioned. the internet is telling me to plead not guilty, but that seems to complicated. although, some wolfwebbers claim it might not affect my insurance if i get it reduced to 9 over. should i have gotten a lawyer? if i should have, can i do some sort of continuance tomorrow when i go? or should i use my pfj?

You should be able to do that. My 19 over was reduced to 9 over. Of course, I'd never had a speeding ticket when that happened.
