Sorry top post this in the tech section, but I knew I could get some real answers here. I need more money. Thinking about taking a part-time job or starting my own side business/moonlighting.
What is the approximate pay one may get working at Best Buy, Circuit City or Lowes. Maybe installer jobs at BB or CC or floor sales at either. I'm not for working the register. 1/27/2006 5:51:27 PM |

Best Buy sales floor part time starting pay is about 7.50-8.00 depending on department and previous work experience; the installers make a few bucks more than that. Circuit City pays better from what I've heard, but I have no first-hand info on their pay. 1/27/2006 6:43:45 PM |

Tell that in an interview and they won't even consider you. Most retail jobs will require you to be trained and work a register at some point in time, including "installer" jobs.

Depends on the services you offer. It will take some time to build a reputation/customer base though, if you need something immediate, this isn't the route to go.
If you want some extra money, try doing overnight stocking a couple nights a week. No customer interaction. Pay is $8/hr starting usually.1/27/2006 6:49:14 PM |

thats your only option from what i'm seeing. unless you wanna work long hours for shit. work for yourself, build a customer base. tell everyone about the service you offer, offer incentives for referrals, print up some business cards and sling em out to the appropriate people (use vistaprint if you wanna be a cheap ass). hell, pick neighborhoods in cary or north raleigh and go door to door with a well made professional looking flyer. of course 80% will blow you off, but the few people who actually call you will provide you with a wealth of business as long as you strive to make them happy. all you have to do is make a few well connected people happy, they'll sing your praises and you'll have more business than you know what to do with. fuck $8 per hour, fuck a boss, work for yourself.

^ I think I'm going to do that. I've been wanting to startup a home automation side business. Said something on here earlier about that.
I'm a software engineer for a building automation company and they were allowing me to work overtime until about 3-4 months ago. It was nice. They justified a lower pay rate saying I'd probably work 45 hours a week on average but get overtime pay. But when they took away my overtime (and all other engineers overtime) they gave me a 0% pay increase and gave me more work. Pretty fucked up but at 40 hours for the week my ass is out of there, don't really care if they've got a major project due tomorrow. 1/27/2006 9:38:50 PM |
