Im trying to get RR on my old computer so I can send myself some old files, but I go thru everything and cant get rr to contect. ive done the restart thing and it still doesnt work. what should i do?

all i have done is plugged in the rr line to my computer. in the past it has come right up and the internet has worked. recently ive had bellsouth thru landline. where should i start?

perhaps they fucked with your intarweb settings. if you dont know crap about it you could probably just delete your network card in hardware manager and restart.

RR ip's are bound to a MAC address.. if you're trying to copy files between two computers on the same network.. then a hub or switch is what you want.. or a crossover cable will work.. you don't need RR to copy files.

if you want to go easy and just email some files to yourself to download on a new computer, then unplug the modem for 5 minutes.. that should get rid of the learned LAN mac address.

Not to be mean, but it just doesn't seem like you know enough to do it this way. What version of windows is on both machines? Does the one with the old files have a cd burner? Burning the files to a cd might be easiest.

Someone suggested a cross-over cable, that would be alot faster than using roadrunner, and you could just set up file sharing between the two computers for a while to do that. If you've got a switch, you won't even need a crossover cable.

You are trying to just get files from an old computer to a new one right? I guess we're all assuming they're in the same building. If they are, sending the files through the internet would be like mailing something to your roomate rather than walking it right to them.

You may want to just get someone you know who knows about computers to come over and set up a network for you, so you don't have to do it over the web. If the computers are in different buildings or something, you might just want to uninstall the bellsouth shit from the one computer and just remove and re-add the network card (not physically, but in the hardware manager in the control panel).

i also will reiterate re-adding the network card. it is the easiest fix especially using winxp if you arent sure whats wrong.
