...when a company does a credit check on you? And by that I mean, getting practically a photocopy of the report they initiated, so that way it doesn't initiate another check on you? I want to say I read that somewhere.

The company providing me with homeowner insurance had to do a check to open my policy and I'd like to see if anything has changed on it over the past year.

The short answer is that it's not required by law.

By that I mean that you can certainly ask your insurance company to give you a copy, but it's highly unlikely that they'll provide you with one, and they're not required to give you one.

If they denied you based on the credit report they pulled, then you can request a copy, for free, from the credit reporting agency that they pulled your report from. That is guaranteed to you by law, and it doesn't generate a hard inquiry on your report (the ones that hurt your score).

Now, if they approved you, you can still get a free credit report (once per year, per agency) through http://www.annualcreditreport.com/.
