but at what cost?
remember when we lead the NATION in scoring defense after about 10 games of the season. now we're 2nd to last in the conference for scoring defense
don't get me wrong, I love getting 80+ every game, but there's also a lot to be said about keeping your opponents in the 60s 2/1/2006 10:38:28 AM |

oh, i'm not knocking Herb at all homie
my names have supported him since we joined TWW, but I just don't want the true bread n butter of the team -- defense -- to be forgotten just so we can impress recruits and hold off angry donors by running a fast-paced offense 2/1/2006 10:41:47 AM |

I posted that in the other thread about comparing last year and this year. That was for all the Herb haters, and ironically after I posted that, nobody replied. 2/1/2006 11:00:00 AM |

Whatever it takes to win. Lots of offense and lots of defense would be great. 2/1/2006 12:57:30 PM |

We're scoring more because we have more possessions. We're pushing the ball more...we're even getting baskets on the secondary break. There are also shorter possessions when we just feed the ball into the post instead of running our offense for 20+ seconds waiting for an easy basket.
So more possessions for us equals more possessions for the opposition, equaling more points for them too.
However, our defense is looking a little weaker this year. Personally I think it's intensity. I think we've been a little lazy/sleepy on the defensive end. Hopefully we'll pick it up. We've got good defenders.2/1/2006 1:03:56 PM |

Points per game and points allowed per game are meaningless.
Points per possession and points allowed per possession are the only two stats that matter.
Carolina gave up a lot of points last year and they won the National Championship. 2/1/2006 1:10:53 PM |

doing more on offense takes away from defense and vice versa
i like to score more points than the other team and we are doing a pretty good job of that so far this season with the exception of the duke, unc, iowa, and seton hall games
