Which do you think is better? Which is more exciting? Which has the best fans, stadiums, and atmospheres?

I like college football better. The stadiums usually aren't ultra nice like a lot of the NFL stadiums. When it comes to dedication of the fans I think college football gets the edge. The NFL has only a few teams that trump most college teams in terms of fans (Cleveland, Green Bay, KC, etc.). Also college fans seem louder. Note, this isn't supposed to be an argument on the quality of play. NFL would be the obvious choice. They're the professionals for a reason.

Hey, it's a good topic.

College football all the way. Because usually your bias towards your school is even strongly than that of "your town" or whatever.

College players still have more passion than pros.

Yeah I know the argument has happened in threads before, but I couldn't find a thread devoted to this argument.

I hate the whole "college players have more passion" argument...people let the actions of a Randy Moss and a Terrell Owens skew the drive that most players have, basing it on theyre all about the money

Hell, sometimes I think TO has a hellacious drive, he wants to win so bad that when he's losing he'll bring down a whole team

I think the thing with T.O. is that his want to win is so high, and the fact that he knows he can make plays is why he has conflicts with some of his teammates. He figures hey get me the ball, I can win this for us. It's kind of like if the Bulls had not gone to Jordan that much, then he'd probably be pissed too. I think T.O. though does have some ego problems, but then again most big time playmakers do. Usually that's due to everyone telling them how great they are.

nfl has a better product, but it's harder to get excited about teams that change and trade personnel so often.

Ummm....nah J_hova, wrong angle.

TO and Moss have passion. I'm talking about the LACK of passion. The guys who don't care if they win or lose b/c they're still going home to their million-dollar mansions afterwards anyway. There's really not as much to play for.

i would say ncaa crowds seem louder due to the fact that many stadiums seat 100,000+

thats not really fair

why the fuck dont they build nfl stadiums like that?

Quote :
"There is great debate about the Coliseum's potential as a modern NFL stadium. Although the Coliseum is an important historical sports venue, it is regarded by some as no longer adequate to be the home of a major professional sports organization. Since it was designed before the age of club seats, luxury boxes, and many of the other money-generating amenities that modern football stadiums possess, any professional team moving to the Coliseum will likely have to do extensive renovations. Los Angeles county voters are generally uninterested in appropriating tax revenues toward a new stadium, which would put the costs of renovation on any future tenant. Another factor is its location at the edge of South Los Angeles, which is perceived by many potential fans as a somewhat unsafe part of the city, although the area is considerably safer today than it was when the stadium housed two NFL teams. Because of the difficulties that the NFL has had with trying to finance a renovated Coliseum, Rose Bowl or brand new stadium, it has been absent from the 2nd largest media market in America for over a remarkable ten years. (The NFL was to award a franchise to Los Angeles in 2002, but debate over a stadium, coupled with Houston's aggressiveness, led the NFL to award the franchise to Houston instead.)"

This is the thing with the NFL and most pro sports that I don't like. The L.A. Coliseum is a great stadium, but due to the fact that it doesn't have any luxury suites, L.A. didn't get a team. Seriously, L.A. has the Rose Bowl (yes I realize it's in Pasadena), and the Coliseum. Why do they need another expensive stadium payed for by the taxpayers. Most fans don't care about box seats, and luxury suites. That's why I liked the old Charlotte Coliseum so much. It had like only six suites. It really was built for the fans, and trying to cram as many in there as possible. Props to Mr. Richardson for building the Panther's stadium without taxpayer money.

So why is it that a lot of VT and NCSU crowds are able to get louder than a lot of pro teams with equal or larger stadiums? Just look to Autzen Stadium in Oregon, which seats 54,000. Michigan head football coach Lloyd Carr said it was the loudest stadium he'd ever been in.

Oh and there are only four college stadiums that seat 100,000+ (Mich, tOSU, UT, PSU). That's not what I'd call 'many'.

Qwest Field seats 67,000. They have the luxury of having a partial roof structure, though. Washington's Husky Stadium seats 72,000, and has a roof as well.

Quote :
"With a capacity of 72,500, Husky Stadium is also
one of the loudest arenas in the nation. Nearly 70
percent of the seats in the dual-deck structure are
located between the endzones. Just how intimidating
can it be for an opponent? An ESPN sideline crew
registered crowd noise readings of 135 decibels during
the 1992 Nebraska game."

no they aren't, they're filled with middle aged wives of boosters yelling at you to quiet down/sit down and stop making so much noise.

personally it has to do with what you can be involved with more. growing up with no quality college football games to go to (being around Vandy and hating Tennessee), I watched more NFL. with a good college football atmosphere to be in, and I consider NC State just that because I always have fun at games, I am able to not only have the excitement of being around a team, but I also enjoy watching other games on TV too.

^ you'd be correct. that is the record. there have been probably countless other times were it probably went higher, but they didn't have that little decibel meter on. one time that comes to mind is this years UNC game. I was at the second row from the top of the upper deck and i was amazed at how loud the crowd got during one third down. it had to have broken the record.

im pretty sure that losing everyone on your team after 4 years just may edge the nfl for most personnel changes. just by a little though

In fact, it is. Furthermore, you know that every player is pretty much stuck with 1 team for their career. They might even like the school they are playing for.

Of course, you completely ignore the trading issue, too.

But I fully expect that someone as dumb as you would keep pretending that personal ties and loyalty isn't a factor in college sports.

there's just something about all of the tradition and the bands that go along with college football that make me like it more. i hope the Panthers are able to continue having good seasons, so that they'll secure more fans.

thats one thing i really dont like in the nfl, one year you could be rooting for your team to crush some dude, and next year he's on your team,
thats why i like the panthers cause they dont go a grab a bunch of big stars off other teams
