That list is complete shit for the most part.
2/9/2006 12:04:11 AM
frances the mute sucked ballsthe woods was definitely top 10 materialbut who listens to technician
2/9/2006 12:04:30 AM
yeah i dont really agree with that list at all
2/9/2006 12:05:27 AM
frances the mute was great. but by no means the #1 of the year ha
2/9/2006 12:06:26 AM
RawWulf did you come up with that list yourself, or was it collaborative?Don't get me wrong Silent Alarm fucking blew me away, and I really dug Illinois and Guerobut it boggles my mind that The Woods got overlooked like that
2/9/2006 12:09:56 AM
this list sucks a fat nut. Full of emo, trendy, and amelodic crap. The only two records I even like out of the entire list are M83 and New Pornographers.
2/9/2006 12:25:23 AM
snap, i cant wait to hear M83 -ZiP!-
2/9/2006 12:26:01 AM
good to see some love for the books and okkervil river

no metal? what a fucking pussy
2/9/2006 1:12:09 AM
The list came from boxes of CDs sitting in my office, and I asked people's opinions and considered those when I came up with the final list. I could have easily substituted Damian Marley with Sleater-Kinney, Stars, LCD Soundsystem or Animal Collective. It was a tough call, but I stand by my choices.I can say this year is significantly different from last year's list. Last year I damn near predicted the Grammys, but it just so happened the best albums, in my opinion, were also popular albums. This list mirrors more the 2003 albums -- on which The Mars Volta came in second. Thanks for the props ZiP and others who have contacted me over IM, phone, e-mail and PM.
2/9/2006 1:18:37 AM
wilso, Katie said you'd petition for Okkervil River to be higher.[Edited on February 9, 2006 at 1:19 AM. Reason : ]

I fell in love with Frances the Mute the second I heard it. I was awestruck by its flow and the level of (successful) experimentation they took it. I mean, there were some strange toying around that went down this year (ie. The Fiery Furnaces), but this took the cake. It was a tough battle between Illinois and that though; and it could still be contended they are interchangeable. It's pretty obvious the top five albums are each pretty unique and all stand very strong.
2/9/2006 1:32:42 AM
I'd probably like Frances The Mute more if the average track time wasn't like 15 minutes.Weeding through all the pretentious artsy shit gets old after a while.
2/9/2006 1:39:53 AM
not having broken social scene's s/t is pretty ridiculous as well
2/9/2006 1:41:25 AM
2/9/2006 1:44:34 AM
The list doesn't mean every album after 30 sucks. I have dozens of albums that are stellar, they just didn't make the top 30. I don't think any single person would agree with anyone's list. Somebody will always want to move something up, down, in or out. But I can guarantee there are hundreds of students of this campus who haven't heard The New Pornographers' Twin Cinema; and if my list encouraged them to buy it, burn it, download it or borrow from a friend, then I'm more than thrilled.
2/9/2006 1:50:45 AM
I can't believe they didn't put all of my favorite bands on there!what a bunch of losers!
2/9/2006 4:29:02 AM
They left off The Woods AND Thunder, Lightning, Strikekthx try again
2/9/2006 7:48:23 AM
How can you ever have a "top list" w/ music? It's music. Which is pretty much 100% opinion. It's not possible for someone to compile a top list of music because it's 100% dependent on THEIR OWN opinions. Why even try.
2/9/2006 7:49:33 AM
2/9/2006 7:57:13 AM
frances the mute >>>>> de-loused...but i dont think it was the best album of the year.
2/9/2006 8:00:55 AM
That is definitely the worst top albums list of 2005 that I have seen.
2/9/2006 9:53:38 AM
I don't get the hype over the Dangerdoom album. I thought it was boring. The Craft isn't doing it for me, either, though. I heard "Powers" in the gym yesterday and it reminded me why I hadn't gotten the CD out in so long.
2/9/2006 10:03:09 AM
2/9/2006 10:22:55 AM
frances is split up.miranda the ghost is split up into 4 partscassandra geminni is split up intl 5 parts
2/9/2006 10:30:09 AM
In that case, I retract my statement.Rhapsody doesn't have them split at all, so Cassandra Gemini is just one 32 minute, unseparated track.
2/9/2006 10:48:56 AM
word....from what i have been told (i have no way to back it up though) is that they had to split up the tracks because the record company told them they would only pay them for an EP (much less money) if they only have 5 tracks on the album (even if it was 75 minutes). they had to split up the tracks to get the full amount "album" amount of money.
2/9/2006 10:52:07 AM
hello inferior thread about this list--one point needs to be made: frances the mute is a god damned disaster, no matter how the tracks are divided.i'm going to go cum on geddy lee.
2/9/2006 1:29:10 PM
i've only heard of 12 of them...and i could probably only recognize a song by about 6 of them
2/9/2006 1:31:20 PM
im not gonna talk shit about this list and everyone talking shit should post their favorite cds of 2005 so we all can talk shit about it. But i guess we like to bitch.and in all honesty only one or two of these cds would be on my top of the year.
