i just got my ocz platinum in and i'm already running a gig of ocz el. i'm probaly going to sell the ocz el and keep the plat but i'm just wondering has anybody seen a noticible increase in performance from 1gb to 2gb?? the most intensive thing i do these days in play f.e.a.r. occationally and running dvd shrink. is 2gb worth the extra $125?

not worth it unless you got money burning a whole in your pocket

in which case, hook me up with a gig or two

I am...and it makes a huge difference when loading BF2. I easily beat friends using 1GB into the game by over a minute. But if you're only playing local games and running apps, then you most likely won't need it. Which leads me to wonder why you'd buy a $125 stick of RAM in the first place.

putting too much ram in your system has the potential to actually degrade performance marginally

Yes, I run 2 gigs and loading BF2 is much much faster.

My buddy with 4gb loads even faster than I do.

Also its so nice to turn off the pagefile.

well the $125 was for 2 512 mb sticks that run at cas 2, 2-2-3-5 timings and it's overclockable. if anyone is looking for ram i'm selling 2-gigs of it thanks guys

eh, it's fun when I can get more than 15fps because of the constant texture caching

I'm the same. It helps BF2 and music production / sample loading but thats it.

whats shitty is that with my box I will lose performance if I add on to my 1GB of ram.

So 4 512mb sticks of Dual Channel will bring down the effective speed as opposed to 2 sticks of 1GB.

crappy if you ask me.

im running 4 512s right now in dual channel, how can you tell that that configuration is worse than 2 1gb sticks?

What board? I think most boards now can drive a fully loaded dual channel configuration now at the same rate as half loaded configurations.

But you're right, you used to could only run 4 sticks at 333.

Best thing about running 2 gigs of DDR4300? When you start a Battlefield 2 map, you are almost guaranteed to load before everyone else so that you can get to the nearest plane.

I call that a huge advantage.

for comparison:
Quote :
"ummm I load in 1 minute and 15-20 seconds"

my load time is 25-30 seconds
amd 3800+, 2gb ram, raptor 74gb

if you are gaming a lot or do a lot of rendering, the extra memory will help, if not then you don't need it.

yea, my roommate runs 2GB and I've got 1 right now. His load time is generally about 30s faster than mine.

I run 1.5 gb. It was a huge step up from 512 but I can tell that I wouldn't need 2 gb.

I don't think I could ever play an online game where some fag nerd still sucking mamas teat with a blinged out system gets an advantage just because his whore for a guardian dropped the change on the machine he wanted to get his whining bitch ass to shut the fuck up and give her some peace and quiet.

That doesn't make sense. The fact that you took offence to my statement means you have an inferiority complex.

really it doesn't give you an "advantage"

it just lets you not have to wait for the fucking noobs to crash the jet before you can actually do some good with it.

the jump from 1gb to 2gb is ~$70-$100... i wouldn't call anyone with 2gb "fag nerd still sucking mamas teat with a blinged out system"...

if you can't afford that upgrade, then get a job.

2 gigs at work really helps when doing local builds.
