My parents used to live there, little more rustic than a cruise. 2/15/2006 12:50:45 PM |

I went to Alaska last August, and it was hands-down the prettiest place I've ever been! Anchorage is pretty much a dump, but Alaska is AMAZING once you get away from the cities. We saw moose, bald eagles, mountain goats, and even the Northern Lights.
It was kinda crazy getting used to the sun setting at 11:00 pm, but you can squeeze a ton of stuff into your day. I'm pretty sure the sun will set even later when you're there, but you might wanna check on that. Just a warning, EVERYTHING is expensive there.
I'm hoping I can go again this summer. I'm at work right now, but I'll try to get some pictures up for you later. My favorite places were:
Whittier - good hiking and views
Talkeetna - quaint little town just outside of Denali National Park, great Salmon fishing, awesome flightseeing where you can land on and walk around on a glacier
Homer - best Halibut fishing in the world (deep sea), beautiful combination of mountains and ocean, singer Jewel's hometown, warmer than the rest of Alaska, a lot of hippies 2/15/2006 1:33:42 PM |

that sounds like the exact princess cruise i went on a few years ago... i went in july..and we docked at ketchikan, juneau, and skagway i had a BLAST it is amazing... i would go back in a heartbeat... the weather was sunny and the temperatures were like they are here now....50's, low 60s... obviously, some regions were colder than others, especially around glacier bay, etc... i was on the Sun Princess...it was an awesome ship in June the average sunset time is between 11PM and midnight... average sunrise will be between 4AM and 5AM... so you have a nice 5 hour of dark...and trust me, it gets DARK wildlife was amazing, scenery was awesome.... you will really enjoy it skagway and ketchikan were my favorite ports.
this website has average temps and daylight hours for different parts of alaska.. http://www.alaskatravel.com/resources/alaska-weather.html
you will be most concerned with southcentral and southeast alaska

dude you'll absolutely love it. I went on one in the summer probably 7 years ago, absolutely incredible. it was cool at times, warm others, depending on how far north you are that day. when you get towards the arctic circle, don't plan on seein the moon for long (if at all). we went to ketchkan, juneau and skagway.
not sure what you like to do for fun, but the excursions are awesome. you really dont even have to take them in order to just get out into beautiful country. we went hiking on a small mountain right outside of juneau, then took the gondola down (those big enclosed ski lifts). try to go glacier hiking, you take a helicopter halfway up the glacier, strap on some crampons (steel spikes) and follow a guide around.
you'll probably cruise through glacier bay, have a camera (still or video) ready. hell have one on you all the time, you wont regret it.
spend as much time as you can on the deck outside, and you'll have a great time. i'm jealous, i'd love to go back.
V i honestly had more fun alaska that july than bahamas the following july, if only b/c alaska isnt 1000000 degrees during the summer. also, less 20-30 somethings to watch try and hit on your sister/oldercousins/aunt
