if you havent autox'ed before id encourage you to try it out. there will be a novice school in march for the n00bs where you can get a crap ton of seat time. and if youre lucky i'll be your instuctor! MUHAHAH

i'm battling the STis in STU class this year w/ the M3. i cant wait!

2000 Honda S2000, A-Stock. Unfortunately I really don't stand a chance since my club up here in Eastern Tennessee (ETRSCCA) doesn't have a street tire class All the hardcore Autocrossers and their endless supply of Hoosiers...

I should still be able to learn a lot, although I'm honestly looking forward to bi-weekly trips to the Tail of the Dragon more than Autocross.

I did an event last year and liked it in Jonbo's supra. We'll be going to THSCC's test n tune the weekend of the 26th.

I might get the SRT-4 out there sometime this season, we'll see.

how does one season qualify you to instruct?

i may come out here and there... but i will be focusing on the new project (83 jetta).. not really gonna be an autox car, and if i decide to take it out, it would probably be in D-Modified or something since its gutted, has an engine swap (that was never available in that car) and added a big turbo.

i may also try to get an occasional co-drive in chris's miata...

btw, if anyone is looking for an autox car.. the bunny is for sale still.

sweet.

i'll be at the TnT, too.

^cuz i'm THAT good.. and me and PJ are novice coordinators this year. i'm instructing for the novice school where things like when do i go and where do i grid will probably be asked more than line advice. but i know my way around ok. i'll still be attending the intermediate school as a student of course.

let me know if you (or any of you experienced guys) want to help out and be novice mentors this year. all it takes is you letting the n00b ride w/ you on your first run and then you riding w/ him for his first run. It should help get them up to speed fast and that means more fun for all.

its $20 an event

it's fun but more of a handful than I thought it would be, on stock suspension at least. watch out for "ice mode" when you lift a rear wheel during trail braking. with coilovers it is more easily controlled and the understeer is gone but snap oversteer in transitions can happen.

I'm wanting to autox this season, but I have no car and I don't want to buy one until I purchase a house. We'll see if that happens anytime soon.

you have GOT to be kidding me.. i can't believe you would even open your mouth to say that. you were embarrassingly slow, even for a noob. i remember people saying, "someone needs to show that guy where the gas pedal is." poking around like you were sipping tea i bet i can beat your best time of the day in one try in your car by two seconds

when youre good in a really competitive class, autox is fun as hell. HPDEs are fun as hell too, but it pushes a different button. there's no competition.. no winning..

absolutely true, d-stock, stu, csp, or sm it has trouble. it would be great for stx though. the acr package would be much better for d-stock.

^^^ yeah, you'll be in novice with a SM pax, which is going to kill you.

^^ it's funny though, because when a lot of the guys that only do track come out to an autox, they suck because they never learned how to really control their car. track is fun as hell, but it just doesn't teach you the precision autox does.

baonest,

1/4 mile people respect car engines the most
track people respect the chassis.

i like both... but i still love to see huge power over a car that turns well... more chemistry less geometry
hopefully one day i'll have a firm grasp of both.

and again i mention don't make fun of something you've never done

but i can also say.. if you're car runs slower than a 12.50 in the 1/4; wtf are you doing... go to a road course it will be more fun.

& not everyone can drop the bling to get track time @ a road course.

ive done all 3.

i like the track more.

i fully understand what goes into and out of autoX, 1/4 mile and road course (well, enough that i care about).

i just like the roadcourse, puts all 3 into one (most of the time).

Uh.. why not get involved and help setup an event? You get all the 'track time' you want then. As far as autoX vs track, autoX has MUCH less cost involved with it when comparing dollar for dollar. You can autoX a whole season for 120 dollars. I don't know ONE HPDE you can do for that price. Heck, do a NOV / Intermediate / TnT, and you get to drive ALL DAY for 20 bucks. How in the heck are you going to beat THAT, and with LOTS of instructors? ;D

Besides, THSCC has some of THE LONGEST setups you will ever be on. Driving ONE run is 80-90 seconds (depending on the car) at some places... x4-5. So, you get to run A LOT for the money you are putting down. That, and the maintenance is low. I know that for A LOT of the HPDEs we do, they want to see that you have had some autoX time so they can put you in the green group without watching you go 2-off on HPDE day.

Have you done a rallyX yet? I would highly suggest doing that and a setup day. 6 runs, and all the sideways action you can handle. I highly doubt anything can be more fun for the money.

Quote :
""how does one season qualify you to instruct?""

Man, i wish I could find who posted that. He was one of the TWO fastest NOVs out there, and he would not have been NOV more than one event IFF we hadn't changed the NOV rules this year.

WHOEVER SAID THAT, come out and prove your statement. I can tell you that I will be putting my money on Dan before you. I have lots I could learn from him.

the longest one i remember last season was 70ish..

average was more like 50 seconds

Quote :

and i said that... what of it?

how am i gonna prove that i dont think he should instruct.. sure maybe the novice school.. but someone that just started (one season), imho, isnt going to have enough experience to be able to ride in a car and try to explain how to set up turns, oversteer vs understeer and how to adjust/adapt to each, and other things.. i guess those would be more on par for an intermediate/advanced school, tho.

so, how the fuck do i prove my opinion? plz let me know? i dont think you can prove someone's opinion wrong... PROVE ME WRONG ON THAT!

this is one reason i disagree with that novice rule change.
