Ok, I have an IBM Thinkpad with Windows 2000 Professional
It has a wireless card. I want to run XBconnect with my xbox.
Info here:
http://www.xbconnect.com/xbchelp/network/
Should I just be able to plug a crossover cable from the XBOX into the ethernet slot in the back and be good to go?
Why do I need a crossover and not just a standard?
Could I still use a standard cable if I use a router and plug one standard cable from laptop to router and then another from router to xbox?
Also not sure about this whole ICS setup if I need to do that...

if you are going router -> wireless -> pc -> wired -> xbox

then you need a crossover cable between your pc and xbox. You will also need to use internet connection sharing.

its the same if you go router-> wired ->pc -> wired -> xbox.

thats possible but a real mess. You'd still need ICS to share the wireless connection across the wire to the 2nd router. Then you'd want to disable the DHCP server on the second router and plug both the xbox and pc into switched ports. Basically turning the 2nd router into a simple switch.

If you ask real nice in classifieds someone could make you a cross over cable for cheap so you dont need to use the second router. But if you already have the second router and dont mind setting it up then it should work fine.

buy a wireless adapter for xbox on ebay.

or hook the ethernet from xbox to router w/ internet connection on it.

or hook xbox directly to computer w/ crossover cable (it switches the rx and tx wires (recieve, send) so that both the computer and xbox don't send on same wire causing clashes, bla blah)

otherwise you're in a fucking MESS.
