BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Arkansas was fined $5,000 by the Southeastern Conference on Monday for the behavior of fans after the Razorbacks' victory over then-No. 10 Florida last weekend.

After Arkansas' 85-81 win over the Gators on Saturday, about 20 to 25 fans rushed onto the court at Bud Walton Arena. The SEC ruled their behavior was a violation of its policy on "access to the competition area."
It was the second time this season the conference fined a school for fan behavior this season, and again it was after a win over Florida.

Tennessee was fined $5,000 by the SEC after fans rushed onto the court after an 80-76 victory over the then-No. 2 Gators on Jan. 21.

Arkansas spokesman Kevin Trainor said the policy was approved by all 12 SEC member schools for safety reasons. He said Arkansas submitted a report on the incident, as requested by the league, and learned Monday of the fine. He said the school planned to pay it.

Trainor noted that 10,702 people attended the game and "the overwhelming majority of our students and fans" remained off the court.

The policy went into effect Dec. 1, 2004. It limits access to the court to student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and authorized individuals. "At no time before, during or after a contest shall spectators be permitted to enter the competition area," the rule says.

The SEC holds its member schools responsible for making sure fans follow the rules.

"This policy is designed to create a safe environment for everyone who participates and attends our athletic contests," SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said in statement announcing the fine. "The security and protection of our student-athletes, coaches, officials and fans is our primary concern."

Fines are imposed at the discretion of the commissioner. Institutional penalties range from $5,000 for a first offense to $25,000 maximum for a second offense and $50,000 maximum for a third and subsequent violations.

If you're going to rush the court knowing you're going to get fined... You HAVE to have more than 20 to 25 rushing... That's the sad part.

once-proud Syracuse had 1000 fans rush the court last night after they beat WVU

that might be even sadder than the Arkansas story
