Basically it's a stupid idea for them to do anything like this in the next two or three years or so. They have a stranglehold on the MMORPG market, and it would be pointless to spend money to split said market. Who the fuck thinks they're doing this?

Another starcraft game would be neat if they remembered to add the strategy this time. 2/22/2006 3:14:21 AM |

Maybe they're not making games to stranglehold the marketplace, and instead to advance the art of game-making?
I mean this seriously. No gaming company has yet to release a product that people loved, and then just did minor updates to it. We keep seeing new FPSes (as new as they can be), with newer tech, RPGs went through the evolutionary ladder, RTSes did the same, pretty much every game genre gets new games regularly (except for sports, but that's almost to be expected). I don't believe Blizzard will just stagnate of WoW. They will continue to make new games. A Starcraft MMO would be different that the Warcraft MMO (and should be). If it comes to pass, and is the same, i'll eat my words.

They wouldnt be splitting the market, they'd have both the fantasy MMO, and the scifi MMO markets now. Regardless, it all goes into their pockets.
However, i flat out doubt they'd ever do something like this simply because Starcraft wasnt nearly successful as the Warcraft franchise has been, and it would be a waste of internal resources to split work on two MMOs. they have their hands full with WoW as it is 2/22/2006 3:32:03 AM |

they already denied these claims back at the blizzcon thing. they said they have no plans on ever releasing a starcraft mmo at the time being 2/22/2006 3:35:07 AM |

What you heard probably stemmed from the fact that blizzard just bought 1500 new opteron servers for battle.net and WoW. If you logically think about it, there wouldn't be a World of Starcraft without a starcraft II, Diablo III (in the works) or at least the first expansion pack of WoW.
Some webwriter speculated how awesome it would be if Blizzard ordered all those servers for world of starcraft, but I highly doubt they would order that many machines for a game not even announced. 2/22/2006 9:53:41 AM |
Lokken All American 13361 Posts user info edit post |
I doubt they would make a Diablo MMO since WoW already has the Fantasy MMO thing down.
For Diablo III...im wondering if they are going full 3d graphics or if they will keep it sprite based. 2/22/2006 9:56:46 AM |

Starcraft and Warcraft 2 are Hotkey wars.
Who can make Bloodlusted Orges 5 seconds faster?!?!
Who can make 10 Zealots 5 seconds faster!?!?
The game is only really fun if you let each opponent "turtle up." That way the game is based on strategy and micromanagement, instead of just raw speeeeeed. 2/22/2006 11:21:07 AM |

plz to explain
TA was crap. I enjoyed TA:Kingdoms, but there was nothing revolutionary about it. 2/22/2006 1:06:52 PM |
McDanger All American 18835 Posts user info edit post |
Due to the fact that you think there's nothing revolutionary about TA, I have to assume:
a) You've never played it OR b) You have no perception whatsoever of what you're playing
You claim TA sucks, and then tell me you liked Kingdoms: a rotten abortion of an RTS.
There's really no reason to continue this debate. 2/22/2006 1:16:15 PM |
Lokken All American 13361 Posts user info edit post |
you never started a debate, you just made some retarded claim, nor have you backed up anything you've claimed.
youre the one that started the argument, not me. gg. Also, I said there was nothing revolutionary about Kingdoms, I made no claim on TA, lern2read

I played TA a little bit, there were like a million units and crazy abilities so I think thats why people feel it is more strategic
back on topic, I would have preferred world of starcraft to begin with, much cooler characters, story etc and there are already too many geeky fantasy MMRPGS out there 2/22/2006 4:29:07 PM |

The technology isn't in place for World of Starcraft.
Unless you gave it wow's super queer combat system.
Which works well for fantasy
But not so much for scifi.
WoS has to be an FPS MMO. 2/22/2006 5:05:58 PM |
