You're on a roomate's computer right?
The system restore discs and such from gateway and dell have a habit of not finishing installation of the correct drivers for stuff like the ethernet controller. You might want to borrow a buddy's computer, download the driver direct from gateway for your appropriate model, copy it to a cd or thumb drive, and manually install it yourself.
Start->settings->control panel-> system (may have to select classic mode to see it)->hardware {tab}->device manager
tell us if you see any yellow exclamation points. this would signify incorrectly installed devices.

well, i don't have blank cd's, my roomate does not have a burner, i do not have a flash drive, no way to download them, gosh yall are mean to me...
oops... wrong thread.
yeah man, just download the network card drivers on your roomates computer and then burn a cd/flash drive whatever them to yours and install. remember, you might need winzip also to unzip them. 2/24/2006 3:45:45 PM |

^^^ The yellows are a good clue as Char said. As far as paying somebody, where do you live and how much are you willing to pay? People will PM me you from there. To properly setup your computer from near scratch will probably take an hour. 2/24/2006 9:00:31 PM |
