By some amazing luck and help, I'm able to head to Hawaii for my honeymoon next weekend. Any recommendations on things to do?

If you're not going to Kuaui...switch all your reservations and go there. More relaxing/breathtaking/romantic/less touristy of all the islands.

We went to Oahu and Maui for our honeymoon. It was an amazing trip. Maui was definitely our favorite though. My sister went to Kuaui for her honeymoon and loved it there.

On Oahu we tried surfing, walked around Honolulu, went to Pearl Harbor. On Maui we went snorkeling, hiking, exploring around the islands, laid around on the beaches. The book series "Maui Revealed" and the other "Revealed" series books we thought were very helpful on where to go and what to see.

It all depends on what you want to do.

If you come to Oahu, Honolulu and Waikiki have decent night life. I suggest going to Hotel Street. The bars are really laid-back, especially Bar 35 (although the bartenders are bitches, find a seat and a waitress) and 39 Hotel. If you want clubs, go to Waikiki, specifically Tsunami's and Zanzibar. I think they're both on Kapiolani Blvd, but I'm not positive. Snorkelling, go to Hanauma Bay. It's cheap, you can rent equipment from there, but they don't take cards, so be sure to take cash.
We also have every high-end store you can imagine. Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Prada, Gucci, Coach, etc. Waikiki has them, and so does Ala Moana center.
Depending on what you want to do and what time you do it, be ready to sit in traffic. If you want to get away from the city, go to North Shore, or hit up Kaneohe (also called K Bay). It's pretty in both those areas. North Shore can get crowded, but it's a nice drive, and there are lots of beaches. Just be careful, there are locals-only beaches, and there are plenty of angry locals to back that up.
Oahu is the most visited and most populated (70% of the entire state lives here). It's touristy, it's crowded, and really it's nothing special. I've never wanted to come to Hawaii, though, so the appeal of this place is absolutely and completely lost on me.
I agree with the "Revealed" series of books. They tell you good and bad without as much fluff and crap as other tourist books.
Oh, and it's the end of February, and we haven't turned our a/c off since we moved here in July. It's HOT. ALL THE TIME. The nights have cooled down a bit (you can wear a sweatshirt and jeans), but I still sweat during the day.

Yea, we're on Oahu, near waikiki...may be touristy, but easy enough to find something to do. i bought the oahu revealed book tonight. awesome how it spells things out clearly. i'm not too worried about clubs and bars as neither of us are really into that sorta thing. as long as we can do the snorkeling thing and other various picturesque activities, we should be okay. i have a huge worry of paying an ass load for food, though.

My wife and I went to Kauai for our honeymoon as well. It doesn't have a nightlife, it's more calm and quiet and is largely undeveloped. But there is a ton of hiking and other outdoor type stuff to do, which is why we picked it. The only downside is that it can get boring after sunset.

On Oahu, I would definitely go to Waikiki beach---we had a great time renting a board and trying to surf there--the waves were long and small there, so it wasn't as difficult as other places. The beach is really nice, and there is a lot to do. I would also try snorkeling in the Bay and also try going up the mountain to see the sunrise (we didn't do this but heard it was great). Pearl Harbor is also interesting to see.

We found the food to be very reasonably priced in most places, and there was a lot of variety. My only suggestion is to avoid the city buses where possible--they were pretty cheap and safe, but they were very slow and made frequent stops and were constantly behind schedule when we were there. We took one out to Pearl Harbor, and it took forever to get out there on it. So don't depend on the buses if you are in a hurry!
