Saturday night's Duke/UNC game is being televised on 3 channels....ESPN has the game from the regular camera angle, ESPN 2 is televising the whole game from the "above the rim" camera, and ESPNU is showing the game in splitscreen, with one side showing the game, the other the student section....geez...talking bout coverage...

I watched a Gonzaga game earlier this year from a behind the goal angle because the one on the bleachers was shaking too much b/c the crowd was jumping up and down on the bleachers.


This game is college basketball at its finest. Maybe someday NC State will have a rivalry with another school... we should look into making one with someone like Wake Forest

i think watching the students could be amusing. if i knew a camera was gonna be pointed at me for 2 hrs i would probably do something crazier than normal. maybe the duke kids can come up with something to entertain me enough to justify half my tv screen.

Granted this is a big game, blah, blah, but there is something very wrong about ESPN doing this. Not only does it smack of Duke/UNC bias, but what does it say to recruits when ESPN is dedicating three channels to those two schools and dissing any other schools that might be playing.

Duke and UNC will ALWAYS have the pick of the litter at this point. That doesn't mean for one second they will always be the best teams. A look at the last 12-13 years shows you that the sheer number of McD's AA's doesn't equate to the most championships..

As far as this game. If UNC losing helps States seeding, Go Duke... otherwise Go Heels..

well at least they chose to do this for the game at duke...that student section camera would just be worthless at UNC

as for the above the rim cam goes...if it ever gets any good footage, they show it as a replay on the regular coverage...I'll be watching the regular coverage since I'm sure I'll see everything else on the "special 1 hour Duke/UNC Sportscenter" that is bound to air after the game

I am a duke fan, and I think this is the dumbest idea ever. I hate the way this game gets hyped up so much. Last year the ESPN-HD coverage was blacked out for WRAL's local coverage anyway. I remember because I tried to record the game and was pissed when I got home and it hadn't recorded anything. I am glad I will be at the game so I won't have to watch all of this "special" coverage and listen to Vitale ramble on during the game. By the way, why is Vitale so popular, everyone that I talk to, including Duke fans, hate the guy. His voice is horrible, and all he does is comment about how "special" every one is after they make a basket or do something good.

Duke-Carolina is one hell of a rival and no doubt should get a ton of attention, but not this much. This is a HUGE recruiting advantage. And people wonder why Herb (or any coach who would coach here) has such a hard time at NCSU. You have to recruit against shit like this.

I hope the student section catches a violent virus and pukes all over themselves and Duke beats Carolina by 30.

no, JP only gets to cover one Duke/UNC game per year. So ESPN only gets one of them blacked out.

i seriously thought they were showing the game from the crazies perspective... if they're just showing the crowd then i'm disappointed. putting a cameraman in the bleachers would be much more entertaining.
