Use that for starters, to see what kind of reception you might get 3/1/2006 2:03:10 PM |

i have a HDTVa from Terk.. I get everything but UPN (WB is on the weak side though, so it has to be placed just right).. I live on the north side of Stonehenge Market.
I have read that the 'DB2' is the best indoor antenna to buy; unfortunately, I didn't read it until after I bought the HDTVa. 3/1/2006 7:08:29 PM |

thing is, if you are serious about OTA, getting an outdoor is the best thing you can do.
get a pro to install it and pretty much all the channels will come in clearly (esp. in your area).
i used to live near there and got all the stations. 3/1/2006 8:07:38 PM |

Well, not always true. I have an internal antenna which was professionally chosen and installed by Sledge Antennas. I am way out in north raleigh. Rock solid signals on all the channels (except PBS- my antenna doesnt rotate) with no interrruptions. I cant tell you what type of antenna it is.
I think I was charged about $160-200 which included the antenna, installation in the attic, running a shit ton of coax, and tweaking. It was WELL worth it. 3/1/2006 8:20:07 PM |

Would yall definlty recommend professional installation?
If so, how much is installation for an antenna? I would rather not get it in a package deal like carzin since i can get the antenna and cable cheap with employee prices at BB. 3/15/2006 11:54:47 AM |

^ it depends on the antenna you get.. outdoor or large attic antennas it may be a good idea.. but for smaller indoor ones, it's not necessary.. 3/15/2006 12:02:18 PM |

how does the placement of the antenna affect everything. I live in an apartment complex that faces west. 3/15/2006 1:34:04 PM |

^ if you live near the transmission towers (if you're in raleigh.. most of the towers are in SE Garner (near the I-40/US-70 interchange).. then placement usually doesn't matter.. at least on omnidirectional antennas..
if you live further away.. placement is crucial.. you want it as high as possible, and as few obstacles as possible between the antenna and the towers. You will also want a directional antenna with larger ranges.. and obviously.. antenna placement for those is crucial.. you can't point a directional away from the towers.. and also amplified.
HD is very picky when it comes to the signal.. if there is any reflections, or sudden drops in the signal, or even spikes, it won't work.. It's not like analog transmission where you would get ghosts, snow, etc..
when I bought my HDTVa.. I was warned that it may not work in this area.. they said I could return it if that was the case.. but I get just about every station in the area with it, and I'm 14 miles away from the towers. 3/15/2006 11:06:26 PM |
