Before I go any further, losing sucks and I'm disappointed that we lost.

That said, I was pretty encouraged by our play, mainly in the second half.

1. Rebounding was improved. We still were out-rebounded, but we did step it up in the second half. They didn't get nearly as many second chance opportunities and we were actually able to crash the offensive boards (10 total) and be enough of a menace on the boards to get a few more opportunities for ourselves.

2. We drove to the basket more. Unfortunately, we weren't able to convert on some of them, but we did make an effort to get to the basket and draw some fouls. We had a huge free throw margin compared to Wake in the first half. In the second half, I actually thought to myself that I wasn't seeing the princeton offense out there. There were a lot of post ups and slashing to the basket.

3. We took care of the ball. 8 turnovers. That's good for us, considering we probably average somewhere in the 15-20 range. It's probably what helped keep the game competitive.

4. Good defense. I thought we played great on-the-ball defense. We had 12 steals. Our post defense left a little to be desired, but I was somewhat glad to know that we could at least shut down Gray. (Yeah, I know it's not that hard, considering he never shoots a high percentage.. 3-17 btw)

5. Fells got PT. I like seeing the freshmen get experience in games like these. I also figure that Herb was experimenting with some of the lineups in this game.

6. Gavin Grants play. It's great what a broken nose can do for a guy. I know he's been slammed by a good lot of you for the season, but he played very well. He and Atsur were the only two who weren't playing horribly. He slashed to the basket, created contact and got some fouls. He wasn't afraid to shoot from deep either. At least he has a better looking jumpshot than Hodge.

7. We were within single digits (7) before the whole Bethel debacle. We shot 26.3% from the field. We couldn't hit the broad side of the barn. But we had an opportunity to make a game out of it. If we shot...say, 36%, we'd probably win this game. And this was done without Cam, who has arguably stepped up as our best player over the last few games.


We've lost 3 straight. Well, Duke has lost 2 straight. I feel pretty good about doing well in the ACC tourney and in the NCAA's.

cedric should be under the basket...he's up at the top of the key

gavin grant should be driving the lane more than atsur...especially if there's people in the lane



i just really have to believe that herb is putting people ass backwards in the offense so that when other teams look at tapes of us they get confused when we put our guys in the right positions come tournament time

to be honest with you, other then grant, not really.

imo, grant was the only player who gave a damn about the game. yes, atsur turned it on in the end, but other then that, we were dead on our feet.

if anything, it makes me more discouraged that we could take care of the ball so well, and have a decent showing in rebounding while still not really ever being in the game.

i dont really remember our defense doing anything...in fact, i remember it being pretty bad (lots of easy buckets and wide open shots for wake). wake turns the ball over a lot on average...i dont think that was a credit to our defense. driving to the basket more doesnt impress me because thats not our game...thats what we do when we get frustrated.

while we got within 7 at one point, we were essentially down double digits the entire game. and no, it doent really find anything encouraging about fells being in...we simply needed more bodies out there due to injuries.

i try very hard not to be negative, but i found very little to be optimistic about during that game.

i agree, but we also played very well at the end of the season, and we were a last 2nd shot away from winning the wake game. i am not impressed at all with our performances over the past 5 or so games. if i had to put money on what i thought we would do in the remainder of the year, i would bet that we lose first round of each tournament. i really hope that doesnt happen, but i am just having a hard time being optimistic after the past few games.

well in all fairness we didnt have the injuries plaguing us last year that we do right now...granted we had Bethel miss a lot of time, but we didnt have a couple of our top players, ie Evtimov and Bennerman injured...and Evtimov might as well not even play until he is closer to 100%...he can almost be a liability if he's not healthy

3,5, and 6 are the only ones from that list i really agree with. i thought our defense was shitty that game. i don't know why we put an injured evtimov on williams instead of simmons. i don't know why we'd want a healthy evtimov on simmons. nothing against ev, but that is a huge size/strength mismatch in favor of williams. it's no damn wonder he dominated us.

I've been getting over the flu...now back to answering to my thread.

Many of you griped about the fact that Herb can't have the team do anything except to run the Princeton offense, and that the offense makes them rebound like crap. Hence 1 & 2. He did make changes to the offense. He did set things up so we would have more opportunities for rebounds.

The last place team in the conference is a pretty good team when they get their act together. We do play in the ACC... Wake, our worst team in the conference, could win the WAC.

I never said Atsur played good. I said he didn't play horribly. Personally, I thought he was pretty bad, but with Ced, Tony, and Elian shooting 0-fers, in comparison, he was just below average.

I guess there are only a few people here that can see the silver lining in a loss. You can hop back on the boast bandwagon when we win again.

Should we make the Sweet 16, I'll make a list thread on people who need to stfu about our basketball team for the rest of the year too.
