a #1 seed? in the acc tourney? ncaa tourney? #1-ranked team?
what are you asking?
if it's restricted to the #1 seed in the big east tournament though, i'm gonna have to go with never. 3/9/2006 2:43:59 PM |

This year? I don't think ever. In history? Plenty, I'm sure.
[Edited on March 9, 2006 at 2:46 PM. Reason : nvm, I think that was just #1 in the ACC]

Just tell that cuse fan at work that UCONN rolled over so the Big East could get an extra team in the NCAA tournament. 3/9/2006 2:47:22 PM |

We've beat a #1 seed in the ACC tourney during Sendek's era. Of course we've beaten #1 seeds in the ACC & NCAA tourney throughout our history multiple times. 3/9/2006 2:51:50 PM |

We've beaten Carolina a couple of times when they were #1 in the nation
We beat UCLA when they were #1 in the nation (seed and polls)
...and I think Houston was #1 in the nation when we beat them (seed and polls) 3/9/2006 3:15:14 PM |

We don't need hard facts. We have common sense. Why wouldn't State have beaten a #1 seed before? 3/9/2006 3:23:03 PM |
ncWOLFsu Gottfather FTL 12586 Posts user info edit post |
^how is that common sense? do you just automatically assume that every school has beaten a #1 ranked team before?
and ^^, you're allowed to look some of this up too. just google the games people are mentioning and it couldn't be that difficult to find the ranking of the teams when they played. houston would have been the 83' NC game, etc. 3/9/2006 3:26:31 PM |

^....don't you worry...i HAVE googled. It's not as easy as you think there Einstein. It's hard to look up games that you don't know about. I have no clue who we beat when they were #1 in tourney or season play. I know duke....prolly carolina and prolly from the 74/83 tourney. What about the other seasons that we had good teams or the other tourney's that we played well but didn't win. I know how to google...you don't worry about that. I was google-ing when you were in middle school.
anyways.....bridgetSPK....i didn't ask if we EVAR beat a #1 seed. I know that we have. If you were to read the post is asks "how many times" not "has NCSU ever".
To the rest of you, thank you for your help!

We beat a #1 UNC team during Dean Smiff's final days didn't we?...maybe late 90's
Hell, it might have even been the Les Robinson years?
Am I imagining this? (I'm at work...really can't check)
Herb's 1st year at NC State.... when we were the #9 seed and went to the ACC Championship, we would have to have beaten the #1 seed to get to the Championship. Was UNC the #1 seed that year (Or #1 in the nation, for that matter?)...becuase we played #2 Duke in the championships

I remember being at Reynolds and watchin on the big screen as state beat carolina in the dean smith center when carolina was number one while i was in school 94-98. I wanna say my freshman year 94 we beat carolina at home when they were ranked number one. I remember the students storming the floor and everything. but yea depends on what your asking 3/9/2006 6:20:37 PM |

We beat UNCCH when they were ranked #1 in the country in either '98 or '99. CC Harrison went off beyond the arc and had a career day. None of the dorm bathrooms had toilet paper soon after. 3/9/2006 6:23:19 PM |

That's the one I'm talking about. CC Harrison personally owned UNC that day (Although, apparently, it was right after Dean retired...I just remember Harrison doing it)
Edit: Just looked it up. 1997-98....CC Harrison had a season record 8 3-pointers against the Tarheels that night.... and they were #1 in the country

Would have been @ Carolina in 1998. Helluva time to be a freshman. CC raining 3's, Inge with the monster block to seal the deal, and Archie Miller draining shots from half court. Good times.
