Quote :
"As the Wolfpack coaches and players were walking off the court after the traditional handshake with Wake Forest's personnel, a handful of fans wearing NCSU gear vented their frustration at Sendek. At one point, Sendek directly yelled back at one of the hecklers, and the coach appeared to invite the fan to join him court-side for a more intimate discussion. Pack assistant Larry Harris eventually grabbed Sendek and ushered him into the tunnel and away from the fray."

Well, the problem is that they can go to games like this and act silly but they won't put their money where the mouth is.

I'd like to think that alumni and strong monetary supporters of our athletic programs still have some say in matters over who is milking us for money.

At this point it seems to me that it's hard to argue against the notion that robbing us blind with contracts and dollar signs is all these clowns are doing. Nobody can say they see outstanding coaching ability here. Sad reality, maybe not, but I'm believing it more and more everyday now...

im all about wanting our team to produce and being upset when we lose, but this shit

Quote :
""People on the outside don't know what's going on inside," Bennerman said, defending his coach as best he could. "They think they know. They don't."

He said it's worse at State than anywhere else because it's State.

"At this place, we're used to it," Bennerman said wearily. "Fans, media, family. The State thing has been like that for a long time."

The attacks on Sendek have been venomous at times, spawning a series of Internet battles, forcing athletics director Lee Fowler to write open letters in his defense, requiring Sendek to put up with 10 years of abuse from the modern machinery of the State thing.

His players hear the comments and read the writing on cyber walls and family faces. They assume it's not like this anywhere else, and they might be right.

"I know it's not," Bennerman said."

is a damn shame.

next time he gets some airtime, i want herb to go Warren Sapp on his doubters and tell em to put a fuckin suit on and coach the team

WHERE ARE THE RESULTS?

That's bottom line. NOT ONLY are there no results, but there's being swept by UNC for the third year in a row; EMBARASSED by UNC at home. Maybe trying to contend with Duke and UNC is futile and apparently it is for everybody who says our fans are horrible, but goddamn...

There's a reason our fans are tired of all the bullshit. The programs down the road essentially INFER that we have to be contenders on that kind of level. I can go out and support my team and I love doing so; I don't care if Don fucking Knotts is coaching our teams, but WE WANT RESULTS. I'm not even in the running for a person who rushes this kind of thing, but 10 years of mediocre, and at times, downright horrible basketball is ENOUGH. Scoring 10 points in a half against a mediocre team and you're going to say the FANS are horrible?

Look, I don't care what Bennerman says, because if you've only been coached by the same person in your college career, what the fuck do you have to base your expectations on? Of COURSE he's going to be defensive about Herb; that's all he knows. You see him more well-coached with the rest of our team and maybe we can contend with the people west of here, and MAYBE on a national level. And you sure as fuck won't see everybody going into a goddamned developmental league everytime you turn around.

!

Cam has a very legit reason as to why he could not defend Herb.

Dude didn't even get any PT till his junior year. He didn't play because he didn't play D.

Yeah, he could think he's great and even make a cheap shot that Herb doesn't play his best players.

If it came from a player like Atsur or Evtimov, I would admit that the words wouldn't mean as much.

But coming from Cam, and seeing how he still supports Herb, then I feel like I have every reason to keep supporting him.

I am neutral on this retain/fire issue. But I certainly love reading the "why don't you coach the team" mentaility. Guess what, none of the fans started out coaching decades ago and were under the tutelage of Rick Pitino, Tubby, and Billy Donovan. Donovan went to Florida, Florida folks, and took them to the Champ. game, and SEC championships. If someone spent that much time involved with coaching, they ought to be mroe knowledgeable of gameday situations, and more importantly, how to motivate players to do more than "keep chopping wood." But please don't say it's the same scenario for a lawyer, doctor, salesman, mechanic, burger flipper, etc. to coach a team with no experience, when the choice we have has been in the business for decades and been around some of the best in the business.

I was talking with a friend of mine the other day and I expressed my opinion that I thought it was time that Herb left. He replied that I was being harsh because Herb has had several 20 win seasons in a row and was going to the tourney. He said that I was just pissed because State can't hang with Duke and UNC. And that it was silly to expect that because there are very few teams in the country that could hang with them consistently.

Why is it wrong that I should expect this? Mediocrity is not something that I want to accept and I dare say the majority of the fans would agree. If all you care about is doing good, getting to the NCAA's and then bowing out early, go to fucking Hampton college or College of Charleston. They basically do the same thing every year. State SHOULD be playing on par with the Dukes and UNCs of the world. We have the facilities, the fans and the history to EXPECT that level of play. Herb is a nice guy, but he is not the guy that is going to get us there. Sorry to say it, but he needs to step down.

Before Herb's tenure at NC State

ACC Titles:
North Carolina 12
Duke 10
N.C. State 10

No, we can't hang with them consistently. In 1990 Duke was an afterthought on Tobacco Road. All it took was one coach

No, most fanbases don't have the kind of expectations that we do. Boosters remember the days of Case and Sloan when we dominated the ACC, and they expect us to return to that prominence. Current students are tired of getting shit on by Duke and UNC. The pressure and disappointment is much greater than it would be at most other programs.

Its kinda like ND was under Davie or UCLA under Lavin. Even though those coaches didn't do terrible, the expectations were just way too high and it brought out the worst in the fans.

i never thought i would say it but herb just needs to go. he cant get the job done and he has shown that over and over. we need to move on and try something new because this is definatly not working.

as for the comment of us having terrible fans how about how many times have these fans been let down? it is so hard to be a pack fan because we are let down all the damn time. i have been a diehard pack fan my whole life and now all i do is expect us to do something to let me down. i still go out and cheer as hard as i can but in the back of my mind i know they are gonna let me down and hey looks like they did it again.

I still support Herb.

That having been said, if I were him, I would probably be so fucking sick of the unrealistic expectations and constant abuse by the most vocal part of the fan base, I'd probably resign and go somewhere where I was appreciated.

I just feel sorry for Herb. I think this whole thing is so depressing. Unfortunately for those of us who feel this certain way about the man, Lee Fowler won't get rid of him.

Will

I get the feeling that Herb being such a nice, friendly, intelligent and soft spoken guy, that it could make Lee Fowler sad to think about possibly firing him.

I really like herb, he's a super nice guy...

But the bottom line is what we're willing to accept as acheivement with our basketball program.
If the athletic department is satisfied with 21 wins and a huge meltdown, but still getting a NCAA bid (a non-favorable one too), then Herb is the man to do that, without a doubt...

But it seems to me like what we want is to elevate ourselves to Final Fours, Championships, and ACC championships, not to mention beating our rivals from down the road once in a while. 10 years, 0 final fours, a very bad record against duke and unc...it definitely makes me wonder.

Was '74 championship so long ago that our program cannot even begin to identify itself with the dominance of the program in that era?

Do we consider the '83 championship just a miracle and the shining moment of a basketball program that used to be?

Those championships weren't even in my lifetime. I can't simply assume the identity of being champions.

I want to experience it myself.

my rant is over.
