Rick Barnes. In his contract, State and Carolina are the only two schools that do not have to buy it out.

it seems like we are in a lose lose situation if we get to play texas.

say we beat texas, IF herb was leaving everyone will be like rick barnes sucks he isnt an upgrade he got outcoached by HERB SENDEK, blah blah blah. kind of like it was last year when state got farther than texas did in the tourney, but far worse.

If texas beats us, unless rick barnes loves state/hates UNC like everyone thinks he does, he would really have no reason to leave texas as he is in a far better position where he is.

Supposedly, Rick Barnes has a buyout clause in his contract for any of the Tobacco Road schools, including Wake and Duke.


If one were to come calling, those are the only 4 schools in the country who wouldn't have to pay off the rest of his contract at Texas in order to steal him away... he could leave without those schools paying a dime.


It's been rumored, but there's really no concrete evidence that it's true. I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

I'd be SHOCKED if that was true. Texas has always had solid athletics and I can't imagine an AD would leave such a stupid clause in a contract... Barnes wasn't the highest sought after coach in teh country at that time and I find it hard to believe he would be hired with that sort of clause..

^^^ He followed one of the most succesful coaches in school history. He had a loaded team despite what the record the preceding year said. Tommy Penders put that school back on the map from a bball perspective..

Losing to UNC was what we did this year in Chapel Hill. What happened in Raleigh was a one sided clinic, looked like bigger, more athletic, and hungrier college men playing high school kids.

here's what I think:

sure, state fans should be happy with the fact that they've made it to five consecutive NCAA births. BUT, none of that really matters if you can't beat your rival. and when it's as intense a rivalry as the one on tobacco road, then the NCAA tournament births dont' really matter if you're constantly getting shit on by your neighbors. Look at John Cooper. He was a top ten coach at OSU every year. Had loads of good players and great success year in and year out. but what couldn't he do? Beat michigan and win his bowl games. and with that rivalry as intense as it is, nothiing else really matters if you can't beat michigan. Now, the only real difference is that OSU was good before cooper got there, while state sucked before herb (the recent years before herb anyways). Herb still deserves some time, but I am starting to see the other side of the argument.
