The reason this fellows HD drive worked was not because of the freezer, but beccause, unknown to him, a bird was singing in a tree during that time. It was the bird that did it!" |
funny post... but everyone else on there seems to think it works....3/13/2006 10:01:14 PM |

Yeah, especially since most of the time, all that's needed is to replace the controller card. (I assume) 3/13/2006 11:49:27 PM |

I doubt it.
Most hard drives that crash so they can't be read by the computer have a physical malfunction.
AFAIK, those HD recovery places that are really expensive have to remove the platters and read them by some other means (including, I believe, using electron microscopes), which is a very delicate and pain-staking process.
If all it took was to replace the controller board, then I assume they'd tell you that, and do it.3/14/2006 2:45:22 AM |

nole ... describe "crashed". Is the thing getting power at all? Is it being recognized by the computer? Etc. etc.

Put the drive in an external enclosure and try to access it through USB. If the drive is recognized then you might have a decent chance at recovering your data. If it's not recognized when you connect it by USB then it's going to be pretty expensive to recover your data. 3/14/2006 10:40:09 AM |
