There both lame ducks. And its the same arguement for Stone starting, we didnt know if he was any good but we sure knew Jay Davis sucked so why not give someone else a try. Who knows who we can get to coach here but Sendek isnt cutting it. Maybe the next guy will be a failure maybe he wont but Herb isnt the man for the job.

5 straight NCAA appearances.
Sweet 16 defeating defending National Champ UConn.
Quickest season to 20 wins since 1974.

could this not have gone in one of the other 4000 threads about herb right now?

but anyway, herb is a lame duck coach in a way which is pathetic considering he has resurrected the program to respectability and followed a guy who ran it into the ground

and if ncsu bball is mediocrity the past 5 years then there are about 295 Div IA bball teams that would love to be experiencing our "mediocrity"

Thats the best hes ever done in 10 years. Thats 2 wins in the NCAA tournament. If you go to the tournament 5 years in a row I think you could make a run 1 year. just maybe???
And a 20 win season is great and all but who did we beat? a BC team when they were struggling and an overated George Washington team? When you schedule as easy as we do we should have 20 wins in no time.

look up all of the teams that have made the tournament the past 5 years....oh wait, nevermind there are only like a handful of schools that have done that GOD I HATE THIS MEDIOCRITY

i would consider the second weekend of the ncaa tournament, a "run" as you call it

we have had three by the way, charlotte and uconn last year, and whoever we beat b4 losing to uconn the year before; and just to let you know there are a lot of good teams that happen to lose in the first round of the tournament every year; unless you are a one or a two seed, NOTHING is guaranteed

some of our losses:

UNC - 3 seed
UNC - 3 seed
DUKE - 1 seed
BC - 4 seed
IOWA - 3 seed
SETON HALL - 10 seed

are those losses to horrible teams?

We also lost to the bottom of the ACC 3 times in Wake and Georgia Tech. I dont care so much we lost either its that we got run out of our own arena by Seton Hall and UNC and then didnt show up at all for the ACC tournament.

^oh my gosh, we had two bad losses this year; i can't believe that; no team should ever lose to a team they should beat

upsets should never happen

btw, unc beating us was not an upset; they were playing GREAT when they came; maybe the margin was bad, but losing to them was not a bad loss

15 schools have made the last 5 NCAA tournaments. God we're awful. Im glad we are only one of 15.

There are 339 Division I teams, 65 make it. Its real mediocre to be on that list.

plus 2 Wake losses

But I 100% agree that the rest are all okay losses...especially considering that BC should be a #2 seed.

This thread is totally off base

Jay Davis never won a big game, sorry. At least Herb has beaten Duke a time or two. Jay Davis also does not have a winning record.

Herb is a system coach. He doesn't adjust the gameplan when needed. You will never be a great team if you have a coach who can't, or isn't willing to adjust to the flow of the game. Guys look at the end of the Boston College game. That was downright embarassing, not only for our athletics dept., but for our school. Sure Herb is a great guy, and a good coach, but when you can't adjust in games and can't motivate your team enough to even come close to beating a Wake Forest team in the ACC Tourney that completely blew you out the week before, it is time for a change.

In the second Overtime BC scored 4 and NCSU scored 1. Was it just as embarrassing for BC? What are you trying to say? We lost to the #7 team in the country in 2 OTs. How embarrassing is that?

The embarassing parts where when our boys were falling all over each other, not once, but three times, trying to get off a desparation 3 at the buzzer.

That was all Herb's fault? Evtimov is the one who keeps passing up open threes and passes it to Engin with 1 second left. I know its some of the coach's fault, but he can only do so much.
