You might find that your clothes become loose after you lose weight, but you'll find that loose control of your eating and exercise will keep you from losing weight.

My point? You're in college. You should know the difference between loose and lose.

do about 60% cardio, 40% weights

and if you're not sweating in the first 10 minutes of cardio, you're probably not trying very hard. getting on a treadmill and strolling at 2 mph on no incline is not going to do much for you (unless you're obese maybe).

There are some good liposuction clinics in the area. I'm just making that up, but you should focus on a balanced diet and cardiovascular health before you worry about stupid stuff like poundage. Just lie about your weight if you're hypersensitive about it. Everyone else seems to.

I agree with Sonia. The best way to lose weight is to lie about it. I always tell people that I weight 90 lbs. Makes me feel skinnier.

Actually, what works best for me is a diet of water, tic-tacs, and cocaine. Light on the tic-tacs, tubby.

Eat less calories and continue to work out- drink a TON of water- it really helps (put Crystal Light in it if you don't like plain water) Bring water everywhere you go and graze on veggies and fruit all day long.

Get a friend to do this with you- it makes it fun- keeps you motivated

Hey dear-I've been working out this past month as well trying to tone/lose weight. I've had a pretty hetic schedule with sick family members but I am now able to make it more of a habit. A friend told me that if you do something 20 times, it becomes a habit and rather that's true is yet to be discovered but I'm testing it out. I'm on number 5 I believe.

And ignore these jerks. Seems most can't read the word "lounge" and realize that their strident attempts at making themselves look cool or feel better about themselves because they know deep inside they really are worthless are not welcomed here.

But I digress. Just keep up your motivation.

girls that "walk" all the time and can't figure out why they aren't loosing weight when they eat more than I do piss the shit out of me...

I'd like to re-iterate that cardio should make you sweat like a nasty bastard within the first 10minutes... and then I keep it up for 20 or so... but I'm no fitness expert, I just know that it has helped me stay in shape.

If you experience runners knee, shins splints, roll your ankle or anything, just go get a friggin brace... they help tremendously

Cardio and vegetables.

I find carrots and celery to be quite enjoyable as a midday snack when you are sitting around a work, bored off your ass.

Forget the elliptical, seriously. You need to do cardio that is HARD. Runnig is good. Serious uphill walking is good. I don't know your current fitness level, but if you can work your way up to walking at a speed of at least 3mph at an incline of at least 6 (this is all on the treadmill) for at least 20 minutes that should help.

Try to do cardio at least 5 days a week. It should be a little TOO difficult for at least the last 5 minutes of your workout. You need to slightly overexert your body.

(Obviously discuss any dramatic workout you're planning on with your doctor first!!)

Also, if you're eating junk food you should stop. That means no more soda. One can of soda is about 150 calories, that is an additional ten pounds a year if you drink one everyday that you don't burn off.

Cut french fries and chips. Cut dessert. Cut juice with artificial sweeters (that means High Fructose Corn syrup--in fact cut all liquids with it.)

Park far from your destination and walk.

You can lose weight fast, but you have to work very hard and dedicate yourself to it. You also need to be careful to not overtrain (that means no more than 5 days a week) and mind your joints.

Also, if you're not lifting weights--you need to do that. Pick up Oxygen magazine, they have pretty good routines for weight lifting.

If you find you can't curb your own diet, try a dieting place. I would definitely recommend Weight Watchers--they're cheap and easy to follow.
LA Weight Loss is ok, but expensive as hell because they make you buy these stupid (but addictive and tasty) bars.
haven't tried any other places...

But yeah, try and keep track of your calories. If you want to lose weight, you need to eat about 400 less calories a day.

People really over look the benefit this can offer. The same people that drive around the parking lot 10 times trying to get the closest spot can be the same one in a gym later walking on a treadmill. I really don't understand people sometimes.

man, some of you are harsh

Best advice is along w/ exercise, reduce your intake. You'd be very surprising how fast weight falls off if you just cut back a little bit. Eat a smaller breakfast, preferably just fruit or grains (no bread/cheese/McDonald's/etc.) "Slim-Fast" Optima shakes will control your appetite for like 6 hours; my ma uses those and it helps her bridge the gap from breakfast to supper. She leaves out lunch, which really helps the weight go away.

sorry, had to plug that

yeah, just hit the gym regularly and RUN (yes, you need to if you want to see results)...the main thing though is watch what you eat, specifically how much you eat. i lost it all by cutting back on my portions, cutting out soda and fast food, and if you snack, stop. it'll melt off

Horrible HORRIBLE advice.

The elliptical trainer is EXCELLENT. Definitely start on it, to get your muscles and cardiovascular system into good enough shape to start jogging. Even then, the elliptical machines are great to use every few days to limit the impact in your cardio.

As you are able, move from the elliptical to jogging. NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER use treadmills. They are horrible for you in so many ways it's crazy.

Jog outside, either on a full track or just around trails or neighborhoods.

Get a heart rate monitor. Find your zones and stay in them. Working harder != burning more fat. Everyone has a range in which you are burning fat for energy and doing aerobic work. You will see fat loss MUCH more rapidly working out smarter than harder.

Quote :

Again, more terrible advice. You want to maintain a constant pace throughout. If you feel good at the end sure it's fine to sprint out the last little bit. But don't feel obligated too. One of the worst things you can do is overexert yourself, because you are out of aerobic range, you are stressing your entire body unduly and it's pretty pointless from a weight-loss standpoint.

Finally some good advice. Also cut out the damn diet shit too. DIET COKE IS NO BETTER THAN REGULAR COKE. All that shit is horrible for you. Learn to love water.

You cannot safely and long term lose weight fast. If you are being smart about it, and treating your body properly, weight loss will be more like a bell curve. Slow to begin with, but it will increase and as you get close to normal size, it will taper off again.

If you want to lose say, 80lbs. You should be realistic in the fact that in the first two months you are probably only going to drop 10-15. Because you will be losing fat less quickly than you are building lean muscle mass, and muscle is much more dense (heavy) than fat. In the next 2 months you will easily drop another 20-30. Then it will start tapering back down to maybe 10 a month, 5 a month.

The last 5-10lbs take as long as the first 50.

Just keep at it. Exercising everyday isn't a bad thing. Just be smart about it. Don't starve yourself, don't use diet products, don't eat that lean cuisine shit. Eat CLEAN foods, treat your body well, and put in the time in the gym and outside.

this thread reminds me of a married couple who frequented my gym back home. the husband was a fit guy built like a runner and the wife was a gargantuan tub of lard. her thighs were of larger diameter than my midsection. she was shaped like....like a ball. it was horrifing to see her walk. the funniest part was that while the husband sweated enough to carry a towel, she never broke a sweat. after they showered you would see them talking on a couch. the husband would be drinking a protein shake, and she would have a soda and chips.
