I think so too. I doubt he'd come out with this right before the tourney if he didn't know anything.

Then again, supposedly the alumni and the WPC fully support Herb

Well not necessarily.

A strong NCAA run, and by strong I mean elite 8 + is another year in the least.

If we don't make it through the weekend though or worse, make it to the S16 and flake out again, then the ball will be rolling.

He says it's not about "Herb must beat X"... its' about keeping the alumni, players, and fans happy... and Herb hasn't done that. He's had his time, and most people want a more exciting offense and athletic team

He said the style of play doesn't bring in the players needed to compete in the ACC, and this offense is too reserved and unathletic to work in the ACC. Says no elite programs use an offense as reserved as ours.

He calls out Herb vs. Wake, saying Wake has the weakest ballhandling guards in the ACC... Minnesota beat them last night by pressing them and they couldn't handle it. Everyone else beats them by pressing and pressuring the ball, yet Herb elected to stay conservative and try to outshoot them.

I agree wholeheartedly with the Wake comment. We should have pressed..a lot. I was screaming the same thing during and after the Wake game (both of them).

I don't agree with him when he says this. Since Herb has been getting his own players in here we have been competing in the ACC. We have won in the regular season and made the tournament final twice. What does competing mean to him? Winning the championship? Not everyone that is competitive in the ACC every year wins the championship.

also, tell me on which team that these players could not compete on in the acc:

cameron bennermann
cedric simmons
brandon costner (when he returns healthy)
Gavin Grant (at least the past few games)

every single one of those players could compete on every team in the acc this year and at least get some playing time; and that is not even mentioning atsur and evtimov b/c i know many on here have been disappointed w/ their play at times this year but i would still say that they could compete on many acc teams

He basically says "Some teams try to run the stall, clock conserving offense, but when you look at the elite programs in the nation..... Duke's, Carolinas, UConns and everyone else, they're wide open".

He's not saying it doesn't work, he's saying state fans havent' supported it because he knows it will never take us back to an elite program

even if they are that athletic i think he is saying the system limits them unlike the pro style offenses that more sucessful teams run

Brandon Costner? He played in like 2-3 game and he wasn't at all impressive

Cedric would be a superstar if he played in a different offense.

this looks like the end

i mean its hard for someone to say this without having alot to back it up, especially someone like Tom that once was the face of our team.

I just cant figure out who we are gonna get to replace Herb although DT wouldnt be bad press and recruit wise.

it was his first 3 games as a freshman; i just mentioned him b/c he is a MD AA

i do agree with that; georgetown does have similar principles in their offense, but they do a much better job of doing diff. things out of it; i will agree there

Quote :

this is the only complaint that I would have w/ Herb. I like him as a coach and will support him until people run him out of here; I respect what he has done w/ this program considering where it was when he got here; I do feel that he will continue to have success and improve if he stayed. But with regards to Cedric, why he does not start lower in our offense I will never know. Herb is not stupid. He has to be able to see what Cedric can do (see the Duke game). It seems like after that game we started putting him way high all the time and he has become our designated hand off guy. I think if we revolved our offense a little bit more around him in the post, it would be better for our team and open up so much more for bennermann and grant

this is the major problem i have with the so called "herb haters". they don't even know who we could possibly get to replace him. everyone can forget rick barnes and nate mcmillan. we would be relegated to having to take a chance on a younger coach who has had success at a lower level of college bball. i just don't see how that could be any improvement as this point in the program.

Incorrect for so many reasons. Cedric still has a ways to go before he's a superstar in any offense.

- He sucks at getting position. Look how hard he works at getting position, then look at how hard Tyler Hansbrough works at getting position.

- His post moves still aren't great

- He makes stupid fouls leading him to not playing a lot of minutes

- He puts the ball on the floor too much

- He's dumb

He still has potential to be great...but he is limiting his effectiveness moreso than our offense is.

his post moves ARE pretty good with single coverage actually...like how he balled out on ACC DPOY Shelden Williams when Duke didnt double

his rebounding needs lots of work for a guy with Burleson's wingspan

jbrick83 hit the nail on the head.....and ced knew that coming out of high school, which is why he chose an offense that would force him to become more versitile (at least thats what he said)

he actually is right

Ev can get the ball down low alot easier than Ced because he gets low, Ced just stands around

Id love to see Tom coach our team, I would love it because not only would he understand our situation, get us good recruits, a good offense, and get pissed off every now and then.
Tom or David is my replacement.

Actually Evtimov is better at getting position. He actually works at it.

Too bad Evtimov sucks worse at everything else other than shooting threes and making ridiculously hard passes that puts our guards in a position so hard to make a layup that it usually gets blocked by the defeender...

What pisses me off is watching our team stay in the same offense and same defense throughout a game when neither is working. When you watch other teams the announcers comment on the change in defense. Teams switch to a three quarter press or full press or 1-3-1. We don't switch to anything. It seems like Herb could tell the team what to do at the beginning of the game and leave. It doesn't seem like he makes any adjustments during the game. When something is not working we just keep doing it like something is going to change. I think the lack of gameday coaching is obvious from our complete inability to make a last second play.

no coaching can help that; players learn to play w/ fouls through experience; ced hasn't picked that up yet

Quote :
"

not very much coaching can help; and ced's post moves, while still not great, have improved tremendously since last year; but you can teach a bad bball player all the post moves you want and let them practice them all of the time and they still aren't going to be very good at them

Quote :
"He sucks at getting position. Look how hard he works at getting position, then look at how hard Tyler Hansbrough works at getting position."

you can't coach drive and desire; you can coach how to get position and i am sure that has been taught but like the earlier post stated; look at Hansbrough: he wants position. ced does not work that hard in the post often enough

Duke never switches defense. they live and die by the man to man. seems to work for them.

^^just as easy as it is to pick out the ones that fit your argument.

im not saying we have never lost a game b/c we didn't get off a good shot at the end (lord knows it has happened). but we have won some games at the end; and out of all of the ones that we lost is it all herb's fault that the play didn't work???? maybe the play was not executed correctly or what not. not every play a coach draws up is going to work every time.

Seriously come on wolfNstein.

Roy Williams is a better coach because Hansbrough gets better position than Ced is basically what you are saying.

Its only up to Ced to get in there and battle and NOT make stupid fouls.
