Well, I'm going to UCSD this fall for molecular pathology and am trying to find out about apartments, etc. in the area (UCSD is actually in La Jolla, btw). Any advice on relatively cheap areas to live in or just advice on living in the area would be cool.[Edited on March 17, 2006 at 2:15 PM. Reason : .]

no advice on living cheap (probably almost impossible), but you should thoroughly enjoy yourself. it's a beautiful place

I lived in Pacific Beach at the Avalon at Mission Bay...about $1600 a month for a 2BR 2BA 1000sqft apartment...with water, electricity, cable, internet, it was around $2k/monthbut it was well worth it...PB is the place to be!

a little late, but i wanted to suggest that you get on the waitlist for subsidized grad housing at ucsd (the sooner the better!)it's kinda ghetto and seems lame to live in the university-owned apts, but the rent is so much cheaper (likely <50% what you'd pay elsewhere in the area) -- and being so close to the university is nice since you'll be practically living in the lab anywayfor your first year, PB is a good recommendation -- lots of fun bars and the beach within walking distance + you're not too far from campusthis is the view from my daily drive into work:so you have that to look forward to...

yeah, unless you have rich parents who are gonna pay your rent good luck finding a nice apt in La Jollalike everyone else has said, move to PBit's the coolest part of the city anyway
