Quote : | "NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - In a list of the 10 hottest cars now on the market, six of the 10 are products of the Toyota Motor Co. The Prius tops the list and all three of Toyota's low-priced Scion models are on the list, as well.
Three of the cars, the Toyota Prius, Lexus RX400h and Ford Escape Hybrid, are gas-electric hybrid cars" |
In case you wondered how they came up with them:
Quote : | "To find the 10 hottest cars in America for CNNMoney.com, Edmunds.com, a partner providing data and content for CNN Web sites, looked for three things: Actual selling prices closest to the vehicle's full sticker price; lowest amounts in rebates or other sales incentives; shortest times spent on dealer lots before being snapped up by buyers." |

^ This is based on market data for car sales currently.
It is not a list of "some random writer thinks these cars are cool".

hottest selling cars, I guess? Some of these don't seem like they have big sales.

i just read in consumer reports where hybrid cars are actually costing more than their regular gas counterparts over the first 5 years of ownership.
while yeah most people are buying them assuming they'll be saving money and they might be wrong, I still think its a good thing people are buying them and making them in demand. This is causing more research and therefore more technological advancement in this area of the auto market, which is increasingly important.3/21/2006 12:03:36 AM |

hybrids are set up to dominate this sort of statistic. Manufacturers aren't making a ton of them because they're not that profitable. The novelty of having a hybrid is artificially swelling the group of people who really give a d*mn about what's good for the environment and not their wallet. The intersection of this bloated demand and manufacturers only producing enough for appearances/avoiding profit declines results in hybrids being a hot commodity. What I don't understand is the xA and xB being on that list. I could see the tC, that's a worthy celica replacement, and the jap sport coupe segment isn't what it used to be. I mean, if you aren't an Acura RSX buyer, you're gonna buy a tC. Anyone spending eclipse money is looking real hard at mustang GT's... 3/22/2006 4:35:41 PM |

Nobody spending eclipse money is looking at Mustang GT's.
They're busy eating Ramen noodles to buy an Evo or STI.

^you're confused. evo buyers aren't mitsubishi loyalists, they're people who love performance over looks. The only buyers looking at an evo AND anything else mitsubishi sells is the last purely mitsubishi-brand buyer on the planet. You REALLY think someone would be looking at both a nose-heavy, space-inefficient, image-conscious coupe and the ugly-as-sin, optimized 'til-it hurts, electronically controlled, turboed, 4wd evo? only the seriously conflicted would consider both. You'll notice I said, "looking hard" as to imply personal conflict. I think a true evo buyer doesn't really want to buy an RS, or even a standard evo9, he wants an MR. If they can't have that, they'll consider other performance options. Fact is, you KNOW the mustang is selling to legions of people who previously weren't into the Fox-bodied mustang because of the sales total discrepancies. You really don't think someone with 25k in his pocket looking for 300 hp isn't stretching to rwd/awd despite the different niches? I doubt a FWD 3.8liter v6 tempts them. That's GM country, not natural japanese fanboy turf. 3/22/2006 6:00:18 PM |
