Oblivion is finally out and it is the main reason I want a 360. Too bad after 4 months MS still hasn't gotten their shit together. Who knows when we'll be able to walk into a store and see a 360 there. I can only shop at Walmart or Sams Club because I want to use up my store credit. At first I didn't mind the shortage but now I'm getting really pissed. Just because of this, I hope Sony whoops their ass next-gen. Now Peter Moore has 2 fuck ups under his belt. Way to go.

1. it is their fault you can "only" shop at 2 stores?
2. what makes you think ps2 wont have stocking issues?

seriously though, i've heard of plenty of people walking in and getting them and have personally seen them at a variety of places (admittedly not walmart however).

Microsoft is already selling millions of units and games out the ass. I don't think they're concerned with a delayed ps3

I hit a bunch of places this morning and none of them had any 360s. I have been looking as often as possible for the last week with no luck. I really hope this story is accurate!

again...fuck consoles for games like that...SERIOUSLY!

just get a good graphics card for your PC and it will look 10 times better. besides, your computer monitor is technically an HDTV and being a student, you more than likely dont have an HDTV

how many tri-3.2ghz core machines with 24pipe video cards have you seen? dont get me wrong, I've grown out of console gaming myself, but the hardware argument doesn't really fly with xbox360

mature, well built games that give you adequate control are few and far between on a console, and when they are produced, they're usually brought from pc or ported to pc in a short time frame

Moore announced that in February.

And for those fags who think that the shortage is anybody's fault but MS is full of it. Nobody anticipated the shortage to last 4 months--thats my point. Major blunder by MS period.

Ever see that commercial (I think its a monster or career builder ad) where the guy is in the board room in a meeting with the board members as monkeys? He had the graph and was upside down trying to explain to the monkeys that they were losing money. Thats Microsoft for yah.

btw, if you bought an odd amount of xbox's, wouldn't you keep one? And since you sold all of them and had earned enough profit on ebay, why don't you build yourself a new computer?

the hardware is there in the 360, its just the software developers have to step it up. remember how resident evil 4 take the world by storm with its graphics on the underrated gamecube?? just give it time, it is coming... while you pc gamers are busy spending 100s of dollars upgrading just to outdo a console, i am just sitting back waiting for the better graphical games to hit. that is not to say that the current 360 games do not have very high graphical quality - don't forget fps's and rpg's are really all computer gamers can look forward to.

aren't most first gen games sort of lackluster (to a degree) until the programmers learn the ins and outs? Lord knows some of those early ps2 and xbox games were hideous.

well the graphical leap between 1st and 2nd gen games on the 360 will be much greater than the leap in previous consoles because developers will not only start taking more advantage of the graphics chip/memory but also remember there are 3 core processors. I think even Gears of War-type graphics is just the tip of the iceburg.

Quote :

Again I was going to keep at least one in the winter but figured what the hell might as well make a couple hundred dollars proft for each console. $200 free bucks was worth more to me than playing the launch games. I figured (like everyone else) that the shortage would be over in the new year and I'd be able to pick one up in time for Oblivion. You can call that greed or whatever you want but I thought it was a good decision at that time since I did profit a pretty penny.

"there are 3 core processors."

And writing programs that actually take advantage of that is pretty damn hard. Oblivion barely does and they spent forever on that game and PLANNED from the beginning to have it running better on multi core pc's and systems (interview in pcgamer WAY back a few years ago.)

Unless microsoft releases a tool to help programmers and developers utilize the mutiple cores to their fullest by optimizing code, the "OMFG 3 CORES!" thing isn't going to be that huge of an advantage. I'm thinking something like the octopiler that IBM released because it realized programming to utilize 8 cells is even harder (read as more expensive, less conventional and just really not done much at all) than programming for 3 cores.

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060225-6265.html

Something like that from microsoft for the x-box that actually helped would be a real boost to what games could do on the machine. I know they have dev kits that supposedly help developers optimize for the multiple cores, but from what's come out of bethesda and some other game studios it really doesn't help all that much.

And yeah, the ammount of time it took to release a tool like octopiler is one of the reasons few games will fully utilize the ps3 at launch either, maybe even less than some games are now utilizing the hardware of the xbox360.

Or maybe it will be like PS2, which was retarded hard to code for back when it was new, but in the long run programmers will learn to code for it because it's their job and years from now they'll be putting out stuff that makes you thing OMF HOW CAN A SHITTY XBOX 360 LOOK THAT NICE?!?

Well that was the whole concept behind XNA. Even if it ends up being not helpful, you have to give it to MS for taking the time and putting in an effort for helping devs.

it doesnt have a ton, but the good ones are pretty nice. they've got a great mix too.

fps-
pd0, GRAW, cod2 are all good->great

rpg-
oblivion = awesome

fighting-
doa4 = awesome

sports-
couple were shitty, but Fight Night 3, NBA 2k6, and a couple others are pretty cool

racing-
pgr3, burnout revenge (if you didnt have it)

then there's plenty of short games or xbox arcade games that are worth a rent/try. so id say it is worth it.

As nice as DOA4 is, it's not really that much cooler than DOA3 to justify a 360.

It's kind of like a "well, I have a 360, so I might as well get it" purchase.

i just people would stop this argument over which is better blah blah blah, because no matter what you are gonna get what you want no matter what anyone says. what is justified is what ever someone wants to spend their money on.

yeah, extreme volleyball is headed to the 360.
