Ok, I don't know too much about German cars, but as far as I have heard from most people who have a lot of car knowledge, they all say a BMW is mechanically superior to a Mercedes. I've also heard people say an Audi is better than a Mercedes too....any truth to this? Just wondering.

I'll be upgrading from my 03 Mitsu Eclipse GT to an 01 325ci tomorrow

It's going to be weird shifting with the reverse in front now that you mention it.

BMW is more of a driver's car than Mercedes. Not sure about "mechanically superior". Audis can go either way (for example, a FWD 2.8 A4 vs. an AWD 1.8T A4.)

mercedes has had among the worst reliability records for the past 5-10 years of any car in the world.

Some of them look beautiful, but they are built like trash these days.

My BMW ('98 540) was the most annoying car I've owned. While dynamically it was the best car I've ever owned, the build quality/engineering left a lot to be desired. Lots of squeaks from trim/suspension, and lots of overcomplicated solutions on the interior.

Other German cars that I've owned... one of each make from the VW/Audi/Porsche family tree... may not have been as much of a driver's car as the BMW but were (are in the case of Porsche) much easier and cheaper to live with.

As for Mercedes - my brother's '98 C230 while slow, is a very impressive car that looks to be very reliable as well.

nah, I make my own car payments and stuff. It's a used BMW and it's like, $16K. High miles (65,000) but it's nice.

Most of MB's recent problems have been electronic related, as they try to push the envelope. They've been regrouping to fix this problem b/c their image is suffereing. However their powertrains are among the best in the world.

Mine sure is a manual. I will hopefully have my beemer sitting in the driveway tomorrow night! Our mechanic checked it out today and said everything looks great except for the rear tires, which is good. I mean, they aren't all messed up, but he said they'd probably be good for another year, and the clutch looked great and will probably last me until around 100,000 miles
