I got a job offer from Robins Air Force Base as entry level mechanical engineer. It's in Macon Georgia. I had on-site interview with Hyundai motors at Montgomery, AL and Caterpillar at Aurora, IL. Both have high potention for offers. I like the job in Hyundai b/c job there I can learn all process of automotive manufacturing. Caterpillar is big company and I like to be close to big city and it is very close to Chicago. Air Force Base is government job and reliable.
feedback/advice on choosing job please... 3/20/2006 11:31:52 PM |

Government work is generally boring and you probably would not do any actual engineering. (I was a government contracter for 5 years and I also have friends that are engineers for the government.) I have one friend who is a mechanical engineer at Cherry Point MCAS for helicopters, he doesn't do hardly any real engineering. His job is mostly crash report investigations and studies on wear and tear of parts. He is also responsible for writing up and approving maintenance procedures and part inspection intervals. I'm not sure exactly what job you would be doing, but unless you are in an R&D department I doubt you will be actually designing stuff. However, gov't jobs are usually pretty stable and the pay is decent.
As far as the other two offers go, it depends on your personal priorities. Which do you value most, living near a huge city, or doing something that interests you?
Also, try making this thread in Study Hall or Old School, you will likely get more useful responses than here. 3/21/2006 1:38:34 AM |

id imagine that airforce base is actually in Warner Robins since my grand parents live there. theres basically nothing to do there except eat. there are bazillions of restaurants, but if you like small town i guess it is alright.
