i was wondering if there were any information on like, bowl history and stuff. i want to match their program with ours. i know in recent years their best bowl win was the peach bowl a while ago against LSU i think, but other than that i have no clue.
but even though we've lost to them 2 years in a row, we're a much better program
oh, my 800th post....umm......FUCK UNC!

Doubtful. Back before Mack Brown left, they were much better and even made the top ten a few times. They also had some #1 defenses during that span. Right now we might be a hair better, but it seems like both programs are going through a big mediocrity phase right now.

Since 1980
UNC Bowl Games: Under Dick Crum 1980 - Bluebonnet Bowl (w) Record 11-1 1981 - Gator Bowl (w) Record 10-2 1982 - Sun Bowl (w) Record 8-4 1983 - Peach Bowl (L) Record 8-4 1986 - Aloha Bowl (L) Record 7-4-1 Under Mack Brown 1992 - Peach Bowl (w) Record 9-3 1993 - Gator Bowl (L) Record 10-3 1994 - Sun Bowl (L) Record 8-4 1995 - Carquest Bowl (w) Record 7-5 1996 - Gator Bowl (w) Record 10-2 1997 - Gator Bowl (w) Record 11-1 Under Carl Torbush 1998 - Las Vega Bowl (w) Record 7-5 2001 - Peach Bowl (w) Record 8-5 2004 - Continental Tire Bowl (L) Record 6-6
Total Bowl Games = 14 Bowl Record = 9w, 5L
NC State Bowl Games: Under Monte Kiffin NO BOWLS Under Dick Sheridan 1986 - Peach Bowl (L) Record 8-3-1 1988 - Peach Bowl (w) Record 8-3-1 1989 - Copper Bowl (L) Record 7-5 1990 - All American Bowl (w) Record 7-5 1991 - Peach Bowl (L) Record 9-3 1992 - Gator Bowl (L) Record 9-3-1 Under Mike O'Cain 1993 - Hall of Fame Bowl (L) Record 7-5 1994 - Peach Bowl (w) Record 9-3 1998 - Micron PC.com Bowl (L) Record 7-5 Under Chuck Amato 2000 - Micron PC.com Bowl (w) Record 8-4 2001 - Tangerine Bowl (L) Record 7-5 2002 - Gator Bowl (w) Record 11-3 2003 - Tangerine Bowl (w) Record 8-5 2005 - Continental Tire Bowl (w) Record 7-5
Total Bowl Games = 14 Bowl Record = 7w, 7L
so since 1980 we have been to the exact same amount of bowl games as the tarheels, but they have had a bit more success in those bowl games (this does not take into consideration the level of competition, or stature of the bowl game)

course if you just looked at bowl wins you might actually think Amato is a better coach than Sheridan, which he is not 3/22/2006 5:02:00 PM |

Historically (as in looking at the last 100 years) they are much much much much better than we are. Before 1950, NC State was absolutely pathetic in football. Since the creation of the ACC, we've been much better, but they've still remained ahead of us for the most part. Better rankings, more 10 win season, more bowls. (A lot due to Mack Brown) Over the last 6 years, we've averaged better. And during the Sheridan era, we were generally better. But for any other time frame in our history, they've been a better program. 3/22/2006 5:18:12 PM |

All-time record is 27-62-6
However, since the founding of the ACC, we are a wee bit more respectable at 22-31. Still not good, but not miserable, either. (yes that means that from 1894 to 1952 we were 5-31-6 against them. ouch.) 3/22/2006 6:29:19 PM |

^ tis the truth, but they have the more recent one, albeit by one year. State - 1979. UNC - 1980.
kind of sad we haven't won one ACC championship in 26 years. probably soon to be 27. 3/22/2006 7:24:52 PM |

The record that is substantial is the 22-31(acc) to me. Which they still have a big edge with us. Previous to those years, I think I remember some elderly man telling me that like a span of ten games in a row were played in Chapel hill a very very long time ago, obviously not fair, but they still own the head to head and overall better program (if they had beaten FSU in "the biggest game ever" in 97 and not crumbled to UVA in 96 they'd have been back to back top 5 finishes, and be where V Tech is today), but the 27-62 is more than misleading. Notre Dame also won the majority of their championships in an era where there were no scholarship restrictions. Now you could say, it was like that for everybody, but not everyone had enough money to put 120 guys on scholarship, not to mention the whole NBC thing for exposure, the National team etc etc.

Then that old man needs to brush up on his research.
1901-1928, 14 games played. 12 of those games were played.....
.... in Raleigh. (2 home, 1 away, 8 home, 1 away, 2 home)
And we went an impressive 3-7-4 in that stretch. And over the 8 game stretch that were all in Raleigh, we were 2-5-1.
Can't blame our bad record on location. Can only blame it on a bad team.
However, in 1943-64, we played 8 away, 1 home, then 9 away and recorded a 6-12 record. The home game was a loss. The first 6 of those games (all losses) were before the founding of the ACC. So for the part of that away streak that was after the ACC was founded (2 away, 1 home, 9 away), we were 6-6 overall, 6-5 in Chapel Hill. In the entirety of ACC history, since 1953, we are 7-14 against UNC in Raleigh, 15-15 in Chapel Hill, and 0-2 neutral.

Well that span in the 40's and 50's must have been what I was told about playing a lot of our games with UNC at UNC more than in Raleigh. 3/22/2006 10:51:30 PM |
