David referred the case to the Special Prosecution Division of the Attorney Gen­eral’s Office, Talley said. “They are investigating allegations of molestation,” she said. The SBI is leading the investigation and will deliver a report to the Special Prosecution Division, which will decide whether charges are warranted, Talley said. She said she couldn’t say when a decision would be made regarding charges but that it likely wouldn’t be this week. Attorneys assigned to the division prose­cute cases when requested by a district attorney and approved by Attorney General Roy Cooper. Talley declined to elaborate on the alleged incident. Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous said the alleged inci­dent was first reported to his department. On Thursday, Wilmington police released a March 14 incident report, which Evangelous verified was “the case the SBI is investigating.” According to the report, an incident involved a 6-year-old girl and occurred at Thalian Hall, 310 Chestnut St. The report lists the “crime incident” as indecent liberties with a child. The alleged offender was a friend of the victim, according to the report. No names are listed on the report. Criner, 39, is involved in various Wilmington political and community organizations. He is the father of three children. Criner coaches youth football and soccer. In 2004, he retired from the New Hanover County Board of Social Services after reaching the limit of two three-year terms. He served as chairman for several years. Last month, Criner, a Repub­lican, filed to run in the November election against Democratic Sen. Julia Boseman, who holds New Hanover County’s Senate seat. Boseman said she hadn’t heard of the accusation until contacted by a reporter. “I pray that what you tell me is not true,” she said. Criner is a former vice chair­man of the New Hanover County Republican Party and is Republican chairman of the Harnett 5 precinct. He is treasurer of the N.C. Azalea Festival Board of Directors and president of the Wilmington East Rotary Club. He has been on the board of The Parenting Place of the Exchange Clubs, a Wilmington nonprofit agency that works to promote healthy families in an effort to reduce child abuse. Criner works at the Workers’ Compensation Law Firm in Wilmington, which he founded to represent injured workers, employees and insurance com­panies in workers’ compen­sation claims, according to the firm’s Web site. He is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and South Carolina. Sheriff Sid Causey said if the allegation had been lodged with his department, he would have contacted the district attorney and wanted the state to investigate to avoid a potential conflict of interest, political or otherwise. I don't think I've ever voted for a Republican for office inside the Great State of North Carolina, because our party here is so backwards and clusterfucked that I just can't bear to do it.

Never would've voted for Burr if he hadn't convinced me in person that he might not be clinically retarded, and probably won't vote for Dole next time around.

How sad is it that if a Republican Presidential candidate came from North Carolina, my initial inclination would be to vote against him?

To be fair Walter Jones is one of the few republicans in congress who is thinking for himself. Having said that, he might be the exception that proves the rule.
