Oakland Raiders
As a State fan I wish him all the best.
As a Raiders fan, I'll be cheering for a poor Philip Rivers performance.

People shouldn't get their hopes up about Phil this year...
Let's keep in mind that it takes almost all QBs two or three years to produce in the NFL.
I think he'll be very good, but I don't expect it this year. 3/27/2006 1:52:14 PM |

2 MNF games to kick off the season AWESOME, one east coast game, GO SKINS! and one later for the west coast folks. FINALLY someone figured this out.

i hope not -- the late game is nice for the west coast, but the 4p start time of the early game is damn near impossible to catch

Monday nights aren't considered the 'marquee' game anymore
Sunday night on NBC gets higher profile games and a flexible schedule late season
Monday games will typically have the quality of games that Sunday nights have had in years past 3/27/2006 7:00:49 PM |

There have been enough exceptions to this generalization lately that you can't really call it a rule anymore.
Culpepper, Pennington, Brady, Delhomme and Roethlisberger are all guys who performed very well and took their teams to the playoffs in their first year starting.
I'm sure there are others, but those are just off the top of my head.3/27/2006 8:30:12 PM |

Thanks to wanting Speed Channel, I have NFL Network.
They've said NFL Network games will be on local over-the-air. So if the Panthers have a game ont this channel, you can still see it.
Still, a ridiculous way to prop up your fledgling channel when the highlight of its coverage currently is NFL Europe.

True... but this group aint exactly the same. Big Ben did start from day one so I give him credit for that but Jake was over in NFL europe for a while before he came here wont he??? and Brady played backup to Bledsoe for I dont know how long before he got the nod to start.3/29/2006 3:55:05 PM |
DaveOT All American 11945 Posts user info edit post |
Ben also had the benefit of being on a running team so they didn't really depend on him to establish the passing game.
SD can do the same thing, though, which is why I'm glad that's where Phil is starting. 3/29/2006 4:03:40 PM |

And are you saying that Jake's NFL Europe experience prepared him for the NFL more than Rivers' record-setting college career? Have you ever watched an NFL Europe game?3/29/2006 6:54:52 PM |
