Tom Stafford does a helluva lot more for the students of this university than student government ever has.
He's a good guy, who does what is best for the university & not his resume, unlike SG.
And compared to what other administrators get paid at similar schools, he is highly underpaid. OSU & many other research schools pay their top admin. upwards of 500k or more.
Thank you for showing your ignorance, like the rest of SG.

Most of what I have read about Stafford is all good, and he seems to be fairly active, and even said hello to me often when I would see him in the gym locker room (i had an early diving class and there was often no one else in there).
But...
Am I not correct that Stafford is pretty much the reason campout was put on hiatus the first time and probably the main reason it came back without much more than a whimper, and continues to be a shell of what it once was? 3/28/2006 8:49:56 AM |

Stafford is a nice guy. But, he is out of touch with the students at state. Of course he's gonna go to a dozen campus events per year, so does oblinger... but that doesn't mean that they aren't practicing the bs politics that all upper college admin do.
Ask any african american frat/sorority what they think of him. He's dead set against all on-campus parties they have, and has tried to limit their ability to throw a social event. From the interactoin I have seen, I have seen very little comprimise on his side for the students. IMO 3/28/2006 9:17:10 AM |

I find it amazing how many people are getting heated over a single post. Be thankful such information is pubically available. As somebody mentioned before ... before you look at just the number, compare it to other universities similar to NC State. (Somebody else plz to insert a link with comparisons...)

Dude, I'm a regular student who used to work at the student center. I've seen alot of students and ncsu employees bash stafford for what he has done in the students favor. I don't get involved with NCSU politics, but I've been around enough vice and associate vice chancellors to know that they have a specifc demographic that they tend to, and alot of times, this demographic pertains to the the elitists at ncsu... Don't get me wrong, they're nice people... but some are so out of touch with the common student. 3/28/2006 11:42:24 AM |

I don't blame him for canceling it, not at all. I was there that night and saw first hand the destruction. But, the students were held 100% accountable despite the fact that there were probably 2-3 cops patrolling all 3000 of us (or was it above 5k, my memory is hazy). You get 3000 of anyone together and tell them they can drink alcohol openly (people were walking up and down the streets with open containers) and problems will happen.
The students were made scapegoats for a severe lack of planning by all levels involved with putting on campout.
I claimed then and continue to maintain, that they could have had a campout next week, and if they would have only had more officers on patrol to stop the madness then everything would be fine. As a campouter, I would have paid $10 bucks to do this. Three thousand kids * 10 bucks should be enough to cover the cost of the police force for a weekend of tailgating.
The fact that Stafford was mostly draconian about the policy afterwards will always live a bitter taste in my mouth for the guy.
And, while were at it, I'd like to thank Student Governement for standing up for students and getting what we wanted out there (alcohol and fires). A big applause to those guys.

I said this in another thread... since then I've learned that senate has somewhat backed down from the administration and backed down from the president, but the senate was in the middle of impeaching who we elected. Lets not pretend like its the evil administration vs kindly student senate who only wants fair representation.3/28/2006 4:05:36 PM |
