beef(mad cow)-->dont eat spinal cord/brain if you're that worried about itpoultry-->dont lick nasal discharge, inhale aerosol dropletseggs-->try cooking thempork-->more examples of flu going from humans to pigs than other way aroundfish-->not all fish species have high mercury levelsfruits/veggies-->is this even food?
3/31/2006 12:29:39 AM
look, you can eat 100 raw eggs, and chances are you will NOT find a trace of samonella. even if you do find an egg with it, it won't hurt you unless you are old or something.
3/31/2006 12:37:01 AM
salmonella is rarely present inside an egg[Edited on March 31, 2006 at 12:41 AM. Reason : never say never]
3/31/2006 12:38:56 AM
Think of how many times your mom let you lick the bowl when she was making a cake. MMMMMMMMMM raw eggs. I have yet to hear of a kid getting salmonella from eating raw batter. Or an adult, for that matter.Obviously people should be careful when they cook food. But I'm not going to change my lifestyle because of the media bringing attention to certain diseases.
3/31/2006 1:02:50 AM
raw beef isn't going to make you sick either.i'd watch out for raw chicken though.

it's because society has been pussifiedwe're afraid of everything, can't enjoy life.
3/31/2006 1:42:29 AM
salomnella comes from more things than eggs doesnt it?...i think it fits most of those categories...as well as food poisoning, so i guess you shouldnt eat EVER!!!!11111111

i don't trust fruits and veggies because dirty mexicans put their grubby hands all over them when they pick them.not really but i DO have a pesticide fear, so i wash the shit before i eat it.
3/31/2006 4:58:27 AM
Fear? YesAwareness? NoI'd really like to be assurred if I'm using a public kitchen space (bottom of Lee Hall), the person before me using that space knew what the hell they were doing and wasn't preparing raw chicken on the counter. Or if they did, they sanitized it afterwards.Any commentary from somebody who has taken a microbial diseases course?[Edited on March 31, 2006 at 6:29 AM. Reason : .]

i am really not afraid. unless i hear someone got it from the store i shop at (or in raleigh for that matter)... i am not even scared of cross-contamination in my own kitchen (meats and vegetables)... this is annoying to my food-anal boyfriendit's just not something that bothers me. but crumbs on the counter does.

I only eat raw food. I don't want my food tainted by heat, or cookware.
3/31/2006 8:11:09 AM
Oh yeah, well I'm a level 5 vegetarian. I don't eat anything that casts a shadow.
3/31/2006 8:20:13 AM
simpsons did it
3/31/2006 8:39:59 AM
It's all overrated except for maybe fish. And not just heavy metals, there's tons of shit in the oceans that will ultimately get absorbed by the fish. And this sucks because I love fish, and fish is otherwise really damn good for you.
3/31/2006 9:02:38 AM
you left offcanned vegetablesbotulism
3/31/2006 10:11:07 AM
no
3/31/2006 10:17:18 AM
the only thing i'm worried about food is raw chicken...anytime i'm cooking chicken i'm always really anal about cutting veggies first...and using 409 spray to wipe off all the counter tops after. and it's not b/c of bird flu.bird flu and mad cow don't worry me...when there's a mad cow scare, i'm more along the thinking line of "SCORE! meat's gonna be on sale!!"

I dont see anything to be afraid of as long as you take some very simple very easy precautions, some of which is a repeat of the above.Dont eat spinalcord/brain matter.Make sure it's well cooked to a safe teperature(on damned near everything these days, it isn't hard, any basic cookbook also has these inside)follow basic safe handling proceedures about washing things beforehand, refridgeration/storage, cross-contamination and clean up, and tossing out out when the date goes bad.The only reason to worry about pesticides other than making sure you wash all things well, is if you're allergic to them (ran into someone who was), then you might wanna go organic or get one of the fruit /veggie wash things to make extra sure you dont run into it. Otherwise, i wouldnt worry about it.Oh, and dont eat cans of food that look suctioned in, bloated out, or are badly dented/banged around.[Edited on March 31, 2006 at 11:36 AM. Reason : .]
3/31/2006 11:36:18 AM
all of those things listed are possible problems, but the biggest problems facing our food supply are companies like monsanto, the patenting of foods, and overuse of pesticides
