I Have an 90' Jeep Wrangler that the basic final goal is to be able to hook up a AC Outlet to Charge a Laptop or other things. I Have no Lighter outlet, or any sort of power outlet. Anyone have any links, articles or advice they can give me. Thanks

just buy a power inverter and wire straight to the battery.

all you need is a power inverter, but they pull a lot of amps, so it will need to be wired on a solenoid to your battery. cabellas has the best deals on them, plan on spending $250+ on a good one over 1000w

you won't get clean power via an inverter - if you plan to use the laptop for audio then don't go that route

i had a YJ, and it had a lighter outlet.

mine was a '95, though. i wonder if that's a change they made in '92.

i doubt he needs anywhere near 1000W...and would you try to pull 1000W from a car's electrical system? that sounds like a bad idea to me.

1000W inverter only takes about a 30 amp draw on yer system. Inverters are by nature inefficient. What sucks is that most produce a modified sine wave that may wreak havoc on switching power supplies...which is what most computers (including laptop wall plugs) have.

The good news is that they've improved notably over the years, and both inverters and switching power supplies operate at higher switching frequencies than before. That spells better power, and more of a chance of your shit working properly.

BTW, you CAN get true sine inverters but they are much more expensive.

radio shack has a universal DC power supply for the cigarette lighter that allows you to set the output voltage. I use that with an old dell laptop (windows 95) and it works fine. Just make sure it includes a plug that will fit your laptop.

as i was saying most high end inverters ie. 1000w+ use a pure sine wave power supply with little distortion and are quite pricey
