Ok, so I go to get gas tonight. I decide I want about 9 dollars. So I try to stop it on 9. The trigger pops loose and it keeps going. So I'm trying to cut it off before it gets to 10 but can't figure out what the problem is since when I press the trigger it moves fine but the gas never stops. So I'm messing with it and finally figure out the small lever that locks in and holds the trigger down is hung up, even though the trigger is not pressed. So I'm trying to get it loose and the nozzle comes out so new it's spraying gas on the parking lot. It ends up pouring about 4.50 worth on the ground. A guy that works there is outside and sees me and tells the guy inside what happened. So he tells me all I can do is come back the next day and talk to the manager. Is there anything I can tell him, or is he even gonna care? I lost 4.50 but they had 4.50 worth of gas on their parking lot because it wouldnt stop. What's the likelihood of me getting that money back?

That's kinda what I figured, I would probably only be wasting my time to try to go get it back. It was at The Pantry on Avent Ferry in front of Food Lion.

one of the funnier things I've read!

just be glad it didn't get on you...I had one w/ a flawed "safety cut off" and it just came spewing all out over me at 6:00am on my dress clothes on the way to work one morning...

let's just say that was a miserable drive back home to shower/change and be late for work

I wasn't trying to take it out of my car. I was reaching down and trying to fuck with the little lever that holds it in place so you dont have to hold the trigger down that got stuck and it pulled back a little bit and came out spewing. Yeah it just got on my pants leg but at least I wasnt on the way to work.

It was either your incompetence or this "malfunctioning" gas pump is a major hazard.

I'm guessing it was your incompetence.

Also, if you think that pump was truly malfunctioning, you should DEFINITELY report it to the manager.

i'm up $4 from the lottery, which accounts for most of your spilled gas, but i'm spending it on bbq sammiches so go get your own

And it is going to go up some more from what I heard on the radio this morning.

I thought that it was going to dip below $2/g at least twice over the past 9 months. Right when it got close to $2.05/g it immediately jumped back up to $2.39/g and has been rising ever since. I can't remember the other time it got down to close to $2. Maybe that was my imagination.

We are about $0.40 higher than this time last year. I wouldn't be surprised to see $3/g by the end of the summer - and that without a hurricane. Oh well. At least I'll have my "price of things" stories to tell my grandchildren.

"Back in my day you could buy something called gas (I wish this part) for under a dollar a gallon. That's about 4 liters to you youngins. We had something called discretionary income, which is what people called some of their money before health insurance started costing $1000 a month."

I had a similar situation at the Hess on Western... except I wanted to fill up my car, so I set the lever so that it would auto shut off. Needless to say the auto shut off for that pump didn't work, and there was no warning of this anywhere.... I had noticed that my tank was getting a bit fuller than normal so I started walking over to my tank just in time for it to start overflowing all over the ground. By the time it stopped, there was about $3 or so in gas on the ground... so I walked inside and told the people at the counter that their pump was malfunctioning and that it would be nice if they posted a warning for other customers. They didn't give a shit and said there's some clause posted in the fine print on the pump that says it's your responsibility if anything like that happens. Good luck getting your $4.50 back.

actually same damn thing happened to me if ur talkin bout the kangaroo. i swear that fucking pump is fucked up. however, i was smart enough to stop it after like 50 cents worth of extra gas getting into my truck, not on the ground. its not hard to use two hands and stop it. still annoying though

i never walked away. i stood at the pump the whole time.
started pump. let pump go to amount i wanted and released trigger. gas keeps coming. try again. trigger is now moving freely and gas is still pumping. reach down with other hand to release locking mechanism. wont release. keep fiddling with it. nozzle comes out of tank. gas goes everywhere. finally get locking pin loose.

I really had no intention of taking it out, knowing what would happen. I was simply trying to pull up a bit on the locking part and it moved up a small amount and pressure foced it out from there.

IF YOU HAD BEEN FOCUSING ON WHAT YOU WERE DOING, YOU CAN HEAR A CHANGE IN THE ECHO OF THE GAS GOING IN WHEN THE TANK IS EMPTY AND IT IS WORKING IT'S WAY TO PEEING ON YOUR CAR.

if the gas station has any kind of good customer service policies they will bite a loss of $4.50 and give you your money back.

on a side note. If that were me...and i couldn't get the gas to stop coming out, I would fuck with it more while inside my car...not that it out and wave it around zoolander style.

pretty damn funny stuff

Most of the gas stations have clearly labeled on the pmp that they are not responsible for spilled gas. Plus... customer service at a gas station?? Too many people around to worry about that.
